Well...I know my SAT scores are really not upto mark, but that is partly due to the earthquake in the region. All our tests were postponed, and our SAT 2 test ended up being taken before our SAT 1 test (we were only informed 10 days in advance)

So...as a result my preparation was pretty much screwed. My teachers have mentioned that, and my relief work, as reasons for comparitively low SAT scores in their recommendations though (just found out)

Essays and recommendations are pretty good.

The common app essay was on a topic of my own choice. Being a dual citizen (US and Pakistan) I wrote on the distrust and communcation gap between the people in the two countries and how tolerance and understanding is needed and how Pakistan's international image is inaccurate blah blah (not too generic I hope)

Anyway..I'm applying to the following colleges

Cornell
Duke
Swarthmore
University of Michigan
Stanford
Brown
Dartmouth
UPenn

Oh and my score on the SAT essay was 10 (if that helps)

I think your toughies are Duke, Dartmouth, Stanford and UPenn...others you will get into...The SAT is rather low...you know that. But for an international student you have excellent Extracurriculars. So I'd say you can get into at least 1 of the top 4 schools. If you are rejected, I would say it was the SAT score that did it.

I might get a chance to give the SAT again (standby). If I do, which SAT should I give again? SAT 1 or 2. I will definitely improve my score on SAT 2 if I sit for it again. SAT 1 is a little risky, in that respect.

Oh, and does dual citizenship help in the admission procedure, or does it have no effect whatsoever?

I disagree somewhat with jimbob. The only school on your list where you have a good chance is U Mich. Cornell is match/reach for you so don't be surprised if you're not accepted, though of the Ivies, this is the school that would most likely admit you. All the others - Duke, Swathmore, Brown, Stanford, Dartmouth, and UPenn - are extraordinarily difficult to get into. Kids with stats and ECs better than yours (and I'm not saying yours are bad) are a dime a dozen at these schools, and these schools admit only about 10% of those kids. Consequently, I'd say it is highly unlikely you'll get into any of those schools. However, that fact that you're a dual national may help you and one of those schools may admit you in the name of diversity, but I wouldn't count on it.

^ listen to amptron, seems to actually know what he/she is talking about unlike me :)))

I agree if stats are the only factors, but if you look at the statistics you will see that the 50th percentile for princeton is about a 2140 SAT, which is not far off.

In my opinion, once you meet the 50th percentile requirements for the college you have an excellent chance IF you nail your essays. After all, what is the difference between a 2150 and a 2300; it isn't much if you take the rounding and scale adjustment into account, but if your essays show who you are then you have a clear advantage.

you are qualified, i'm glad you are not applying to any of the schools i'm applying to

me 2 thank god u wood kill my chances

I'm tired of people saying Cornell is a match for everyone. Though they have the highest acceptance rate of the Ivies, they do reject a lot of qualified applicants.

Thanks for the replies people.

It's just really frustrating because I've worked my butt off the past three four years, and I just couldn't perform on the SATs with all the confusion concerning test dates here. Our SAT 1 alone was postponed twice. And so, I had to give SAT 2 when prepared for SAT 1 and vice versa. It was just weird.
