I plan on applying early admission to Northwestern University this August. Do you think I can get in?

My Stats:
31 ACT score
4.0 GPA

AP U.S. History
AP Language and Composition
I will take AP Bio, AP Stats, and AP Lit my senior year and I will be dual enrolled at a local college
I attend a selective Math, Science, and Technology high school in addition to my regular high school, so my classes have all been honors and advanced

I play varsity field hockey
I volunteer at a local hospital 100+ hours
I am a Link Crew leader (mentoring freshman)
NHS member
I volunteer at a local Sunday school every weekend
I have a retail job

I am an out-of-state applicant, and I plan on studying physical therapy
I am going to work really hard on the essays
I know I can get excellent recommendations
I don't know if it's important, but I am a Caucasian female from a middle-class family

Also, does applying early admission help?
Thank you! This means so much to me! Northwestern is my dream school!

First, Northwestern has Early Decision, so if you are accepted, it is binding. Make sure that you can afford it. Although there is an out for not being able to afford it, it is still a good idea to keep your word.

GPA is strong. Obviously a 4.0 is going to help you, however, I see few AP classes. Did you chose not to take them, or were they not offered. If you didn’t take them, that will be detrimental; not having the opportunity to take them looks different. Your ACT is low for Northwestern standards. Even ED, a 31 is below their average. For maximum admission chances, try to get at least a 33. There is an ACT in September (I believe), so you should look into retaking.

You have okay extracurriculars, which are definitely the weakest part of your application. NHS is more of an honor/award, so you really have two extracurricular activities, Link Crew and field hockey. Having a job looks good, and your volunteering is in line with other applicants (meaning you have good volunteering). Make sure your essays and recs are outstanding.

Having said all of that, with your current 31 and ED, it is a reach. It would also be a reach RD. If you manage to get a 33, it would be Low Reach/ Reach ED, and Reach RD. I encourage you to apply, as there is always the chance. However, it is necessary for you to pick safeties to apply to.

Here is the ED FA rule:
https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/docs/downloadforms/ED_Agreement.pdf

If you decline the ED FA offer, you apply elsewhere RD as if ED had not been attempted. Consider also that the ED FA offer might be the best you get.
