What are my chances?

Hi guys!

I'm extremely interested in applying to some of the great ivys of the south such as Duke and Vanderbilt. I'm taking the SAT in October and the ACT in September so I don't know how well I will do in those aspects, but I've taken several subject tests--one of which is World History that I scored a 760 on.

I love history, and I've made it clear in my college apps that I want to apply as a History major--I have a book award in History and was a 2012 Social Studies Major @ Georgia's Governors Honors Program.

I was just wondering, which do colleges focus on more--SAT or my Social Studies awards/scores--if I want to be a history major in college?

Also, what are good approximate numbers for the SAT and ACT that those two schools above will accept me with?

Thanks :)

Hi!! I’ll try to help as much as I can! I know a friend who got accepted into Vanderbilt with a full ride with a 34 ACT, and a great gpa (I’m guessing around a 4.4-4.5 weighted). She didn’t do a WHOLE lot of EC, maybe 2-3 each year. I would guess that the colleges would be more interested in your awards/GPA, rather than the ACT/SAT since those reflect your performance in highschool as a WHOLE rather than how you did on one test. But they definitely do matter, and since you’re applying to such prestigious schools, aim for above a 30.
