What are my chances?

Hello everyone.

I am an economics major from the University of New Mexico with a minor in the honors program. I am officially done with college (I am finishing a semester early), and I am looking to law school. I have taken the lsat and gotten a 172. My overall GPA is a 3.65. My gpa looked as follows in chronological order, 3.0, 3.3, 3.5, 3.75, 4.0, 4.0, 4.0. I started three campus organizations in which I am/was the president. These groups boast 40 plus members. I am Hispanic also who is very active in charities. (local food bank and such). I have three solid letters from the dean of economics at my school, another professor dealing with economics and law, and the dean of the history department. I am a licensed real estate broker and an intern at a financial analyst's firm. /endrant. I wanted some advice on what law schools I should look towards. I would like to get into duke or georgetown. If I can get into a better school that would be even cooler! What are my chances? I want to go into anti-trust law. Thanks so much. Happy Holidays!

3.65/172/URM is (almost) all that matters.

Apply broadly – ask for fee waivers – and pick and choose among several in the T14. You may get more money from schools other than Georgetown, which does not have a reputation for being generous with merit money.

Good luck.

OP–

Check NYU Law School out. Hispanic students might get substantial financial aid offered by Bickel & Brewer firm.
[Scholarships | NYU School of Law](http://www.law.nyu.edu/centers/bickelbrewer/scholarships)

Named partner Brewer’s son currently attends NYU law school.

Ask for fee waivers, but apply to T14 schools of your choice even if you do not get the fee waivers. Based on the information you have provided, your application will be competitive.

May even want to aim for Columbia or Harvard (not sure about Yale, though)…

Duke: Low match/Match
Georgetown: Low match

I think you have a good chance at both Duke and Georgetown. The 172 is huge. Best of luck, and let us know how you make out!

^^agreed.

A 172+URM makes everything from NYU on down, a high match. But be prepared for yield protection, which means that you’ll need to consider ‘Why LS’ essays.

google “law school numbers” and go to their website.

You can view the current results of law school applications to each law school. There is a feature that allows you to search results across the board by LSAT and GPA for the current cycle, 3 years, 5 years.

A quick eye scan of Harvard on that website at this early stage in this year’s cycle has 14 out of roughly 60 accepted students at 172 or lower.
