What are my chances?

Hey guys,

I’ve been looking around on this website to decide whether or not I should decide whether or not to apply early decision to Tech. I’m a junior in high school and my stats are mostly above average for VT, but I’m still scared my GPA is a bit too low because I’ve looked around and seen people with higher GPAs than me get waitlisted, deferred, and even rejected.

Here are my stats:

IB Diploma Candidate
GPA: 3.75 Weighted (I know :P)
SAT: 1520 (November 2016: New SAT) Math: 770, English: 750
Classes: Full diploma- IB Business SL, IB Theory of Knowledge, IB History of the Americas, IB Physics SL 1, IB English lit HL 1, IB Math HL 1, IB French HL 1
STEM classes are mostly As

EC:
4 Seasons XC and track
Over 100 hours of community service
2 years of peer tutoring, president and founder of mechanics and machinery club
Have a summer internship at a mechanics shop
Science National Honor Society
Math National Honor Society

I want to apply for engineering but that requires a really good GPA so I might also apply for Business Info Tech and switch to engineering if I get into the STEP program.

So in summary what I want to know:
What are my chances of getting into engineering ED and RD?
What are my chances of getting into BIT ED and RD?

What is your unweighted? The SAT scores are good and it looks like you have a good course load. Like you said, people with better stats have been rejected, but at the same time people with lower can get accepted. Engineering is fickle about admissions sometimes. I think you have a decent chance.
