I plan to major in computer engineering. I feel that my grades and scores are lower than the competition for engineering majors and I am not sure which schools I have a decent chance of getting into. I will be taking the SAT, ACT and SAT subject tests another time shortly. If the colleges listed are out of reach, please feel free give me any suggestions.
Schools I am interested in are most UCs, Cal Poly SLO, Purdue, Boston University, Northeastern, RPI, Stevens Institute of Tech.
ACT on target but GPA on the low side.
SLO: Reach (around 25% acceptance rate for CE) also overenrolled this year so harder for next year.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:
UCB: 2%-Reach
UCLA: 3%-Reach
UCSD: 6%-Reach
UCD: 15%-Reach
UCSB: 14%-Reach
UCI: 13%-Reach
UCSC: 59%- High Match
UCR: 78%-Match
UCM: 92%-Match
If in-state CA consider more Cal states for Match schools.
Thanks for the help! I am also looking at some state schools like SJSU.
My GPA is low, but I am still working on the SAT and ACT to make for it. Would that in any way improve my chances?
UC’s are GPA focused but higher test scores will help with Cal states.
Calculate your eligibility index and see how you compare.
SDSU/CSULB and Cal Poly Pomona are other CSU’s to consider.
If you took the Redesigned SAT:(High School GPA X 800) + (SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) + Math Score) = Eligibility Index
If you took the ACT:
(High School GPA X 200) + (10 X ACT Composite Score) = Eligibility Index
