I currently attend a special high school, where I have gotten to study Computer Science for the past four years along with the usual curriculum. I was wondering what you all think my chances are.
SCHOOLS:
Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign, University of Virginia, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, Rutgers, Georgia Tech, UC-Berkeley, University of Texas- Austin.
GRADES/COLLEGEBOARD:
I have a 1550 SAT score (750 ENG, 800 MAT). I have a 4.45 weighted GPA. My school only offers 3 AP courses (AB Calculus, Computer Science A, and Physics 1), but I took all of them my junior year. I also self-studied BC Calculus and got a 5 on the BC, a 5 on CSA, and a 4 on Physics 1. This year I am attending a local county college full-time as a high school senior, and I am taking Multivariable Calculus, Discrete Mathematics, Composition 1, Lifetime Wellness, and Computer Architecture and Assembly Language. Next semester I am planning on taking Linear Algebra, Composition 2, Weight Training, and Data Structures and Algorithms.
EXTRACURRICULAR (in no particular order):
- NHS
- I teach MIT's Scratch and Python to Elementary/Middle Schoolers.
- I was an intern at a presidential campaign.
- I am a Systems Analyst at Prudential Financial, where I do data-visualization (12 hours per week).
- I work a second job at a local ice cream shop (avg. 17 hours per week).
- I founded my own political op-ed website that produces income.
- I am on the leadership team at my church.
- I have participated in FIRST Robotics for the past 8 years (FLL/FTC), and my team ranked in the National Championships 4 years ago. This past year we ranked regionally. Also, I have been captain of the team for the past 3 years.
- During my sophomore year, I co-founded the Tech Club at my school and was the VP for two years. This year I am mentoring the new VP on how to do things properly.
- Peer leader at high school. __________________________________________________________________________________________________ WRITING:
Multiple people at my school have told me that all my counselor can do is talk about me, so apparently he really likes me. I got my sophomore year Algebra 2/Trig teacher to write one letter of rec for me. We have had some deep conversations, and he knows me pretty well, so I imagine he will do a good job. The other letter in my computer science teacher who has taught me for my first 3 years.
I have gotten my essay read over by my English teacher, undergraduates at Stanford, and a few other people. Writing is definitely not my strong suit, but I think the essay is good enough to not be a detriment.
OTHER:
- I participated in the Stanford Summer High School Program this summer, where I took a statistics class and a high- performance computing class. I received an A+ and an A in the courses, and I received the computer science intensive certificate.
- I'm caucasian and come from an upper-middle class background. I have 3 younger siblings who are all planning on
attending college. __________________________________________________________________________________________________
Anyways, what do you think my chances are for any of the schools listed?
Thanks!
