UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, ECU, NYU, Boston University, UMichigan, Pennstate, UCLA?

looking to major in neuroscience/biology but also business/finances? I rly don’t know what to do :’(

UCLA will be a High Reach with your GPA since their average weighted GPA is 4.23. Also as an OOS student, you will be full pay at $65k/year if accepted and no financial aid. I would not waste the application fee for UCLA or any other UC unless you have an unlimited budget.

2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCLA: 2%

Pls help! Any advice is useful

Relax! There are plenty of colleges out there where you can have a great education and spend an enriching four years.

NC State and ECU are going to be match schools for you. UNC, BU & U Michigan are reaches.

Given the mediocre scores for your AP tests, do you think you could do better on the SAT subject tests? If not, I wouldn’t bother taking them unless the colleges to which you are applying require them or will place you based on your scores. If you can afford to take them and think you can do better, give biology and Math 2 a shot.

None of your ECs give clues as to whether to tip the scale to neuroscience/biology or business/finances, but you can always apply undeclared. If the college permits enrollment in two departments, have two majors - or major in one and minor in the other.

Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah could be OOS publics worth pursuing.

Would App State, UNC Charlotte, and UNC Wilmington be candidate schools?

@speedysun All your reach schools (NYU, BU, UMich, UCLA) are essentially out-of-reach schools due to your 3.1 GPA. For schools that you’re interested in, you need to take a look at their common data set information. Google: Name of school common data set. For example: BU, available at https://www.bu.edu/oir/files/2019/01/CDS.pdf section C11 puts your GPA well into the bottom 7%. Look for reach schools where both your GPA and standardized test scores put you much closer to the middle of the pack. There are plenty of really good schools for kids with your stats, but they won’t include highly ranked, highly competitive “name” schools.
