Are my chances hurt by multiple applicants from my school including two who were deferred early?

were their stats better than yours?

Im not sure. They are all great people and I love them but is it possible to have more than 1 kid go to UPENN from 1 school.

yeah....we had 3 apply early alone, all 3 got in... and im sure the other kids from my school wont all be shut out

same here. at least 15 did from my school, and only like 4 didn't get in. 2 of the 4 were deferred.

I'm surprised you didn't get in to H...Did you get good recs?

You really should be admitted. Your biggest strengths are your transcript and minority status. It seems as if you're really challenging yourself, which is a very positive thing for URM's.

You have a very strong GPA, and your test scores don't disqualify you from being in the middle 50%. Although your academic awards are extremely average, I don't think it will hurt you. Karate would be a good hook as well.

Joey

Thanks. I thought my recs were pretty good but i can never be sure. I really hope my stats and recs are good enough to get in.

Are my grades for first quarter going to hurt me. I expect around the same grades for second quarter

AP Psychology 92
AP English 94
AP Economics 91
Spanish 4H 92
AP Calculus AB 86
AP Physics B 88

Average - 90.5

The only reason my overall average is so low is because of physics and calculus.

hey stan, your stats r pretty good, and the karate thing is really impressive. Although your mid year report might not be off the hook, u seem well rounded. Admission at penn is pretty random, an asian guy from my school last yr got WL'ed with a 1140, and 2.3! while a bunch of others got rejected with 1400's, and 4.0+'s. your stats are alot better than mine, and prolly with other top urms applying. good luck!

9 applied early at my school, 7 got in. we have another high school in our township (two total) where 20 applied and 11 got in. 18/29 early ain't so bad. last year was even crazier when we had 5 (out of idk how many applied) people get in early and all 5 did IB while this year, only 1/7 acceptees did IB while the rest were strictly AP students. Very unpredictable.

by IB do u mean the diploma, or certificates?

the diploma. at our school, you either take the full courseload to get the diploma or if you don't wanna, you can only take IB electives (in our case, only psychology, econ, music theory, art, hl or sl) for a couple of certificates and no single course like his of americas.

in last year's case, all 5 people were enrolled in the diploma program. this year, some kids took one ib class (mostly econ sl) b/c they had so much many frees (there are only so many ap class you can take before they run out).

but our school's pretty hardcore in both ib and ap although the ib and ap kids diss each other's programs a lot. we always have kids going to penn each year and a whole bunch of gw's and psu's. penn knows our school very well and knows that we have very qualified kids who can go a lot of places. on a feeder scale of 1-10, i'd say we're round 7 while central's like 15.

oh ok cool.
