My school district changed the weighted Gpa and class rank policy for the classes of 2023 and 2024. In that change, they excluded any grade points for classes above Algebra II. I began HS with pre-AP Pre-Cal, 10th AP Cal AB/BC, 11th multi-variable calculus and analytical geometry, 12th AP Stats. I made a 5 on AP Cal. None of my high school classes count toward my rank. I am not in the top 6%. I made a 1550 on the SAT. I also have a computer programming paid internship I started in June. I have a lot of CS classes and a 5 on the AP test. What do you think my odds are for admission as well as admission into CS?
Perhaps a more prudent explanation why with your stats you are still not in top 6%? Is it because you lack social science, languages and history? It is rather odd an ISD exclude Calc, AP Stats in GPA as those are still very entry level Math.
Even for top 3% students, acceptance to computer science major is still no guarantee. There have been top 1% to top 3% get denied (offered COLA or others.)
UT’s biggest hint in admission, is recruiting students that plan to change the future. They do look for students who are all rounded. Not just good on one subject but still reasonably good on others.
With your long listing of Math, your best bet of first choice major is Math or Actuarial Science. Sometimes having so much on one area but applying another major will become less convincing to admission. Freshmen admission is reviewed by admission office and not by department, your essays need to be very straight forward and simple. Explaining your ISD situation and your math experience. And for high ranking and good scoring students, they also need to convince admission that UT is NOT their backup school.
If your paid internship has tax /pay stub, upload to My Status portal. Nowadays, many students claimed to be in some kind of internship admission office don’t really take those seriously. Any award or prestigious certifications you should load into the portal. Of course update and load your resume as well.
Good Luck!
