I'm from Denmark and I'm thinking about applying for an American college. First question: Is it more difficult for an international student to get in?

I just checked the Harvard application and I noticed the request for a list of academic honors. In Denmark students don't receive academic honors.

Also, there are no sience groups, French groups, summer classes, they don't rank students, the grades are not the same etc. The school system is just very different.

I migth have good grades and perfect SAT-scores, but there are many questions I'm not able to answer and I'm pretty worried about that...

you need gpa unweighted, alot of extra-curricular activities, good SATs to apply to Harvard. Regardless of where you are in the world, you can have these three things. The minor information about academic awards are not a major portion of the application if you ECs are superior.

But it's nothing fancy.. I deliver papers in the morning, clean offices, work in a cafe and a movie store.

It's a lot and it pretty much prevents me from doing other extra-curriculars. I play the piano and the tuba but it's not on a professional level.

My family isn't poor but they are not very supportive. They don't want me to study abroad. First of all they think it's ridicoulous because as they say: "We have good universities in Denmark. Stay here". I've tried to explain that I want to live in another country, I want to know different people (college is much more of a social experience than it is in Denmark), I like the American school system and I want to go to a fantastic school with high standards. I work a lot to show them that I'm very serious about it. I really want this.

If I'm extremely lucky and get in, I at least can pay a good part of the turition. That's how I think right now.
