what are my chances?

<p>Hi! I’m a prospective 2013er
Everything I hear about Dartmouth is glowing and I’m heading up to visit it soon.
I’d really appreciate it if you guys gave me some feedback on my chances of getting into Dartmouth. I feel like I’m just average if not slightly below average…how could I make myself standout? Thanks!!</p>

<p>SAT I (breakdown): Verbal 780, Math 710, Writing 800 (superscored...possible retake in october idk what do you think?)
SAT II: 780, 740, 710
GPA: 3.9 (UW)
Rank: 13/545 (12 valedictorians, so could I count as a sal?)
APs: Biology, English Language, World History, US History...all 5s
Senior Year Course Load: all AP's
Awards: possible National Merit Semi-Finalist, one of the AP Scholar awards, French language, Chinese language award, local essay competitions, some little academic recognition things in my school
Extracurriculars: French Club (President senior year, secretary junior year), Newspaper (section editor 11-12), Invisible Children (founding committee 10-11, President 12), FNHS (PR), just a member of the other clubs. JV athletics.
Job/Work Experience: Internship at a pharmaceutical company in China
Volunteer/Community service: two local hospitals (transport volunteer, nurse aide, child life volunteer and ER volunteer), Pearl S. Buck International, other random things<br>
Summer Activities: Two science classes this summer at local community college, Presidential classroom, Bryn Mawr week-long college program, some other conferences
School Type: Public, pretty academic, but not super competitive
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female</p>

-dartmouth has never accepted someone from my school who was not a valedictorian. most of them had 2350+ SATs too.</p>

<p>I'm curious, why would you retake your SAT when you got a 2290? That's incredibly impressive?</p>

<p>And I don't think you can count as a Salutatorian, and I don't think the colleges that see those 11 other kids that put down Val, yet are ranked 2-12, are going to count them as Valedictorians. I may be wrong, but I was under the impression Val was solely for number 1, and sal was solely for number 2 in the class?</p>

<p>I think it depends on how the school does it. Mine had about fifteen this year, but we do unweighted GPAs for Val. We don't recognize Sals. Colleges see both the weighted and unweighted gpa, and the rankings that follow.</p>

<p>Your chances are decent, like 1 in 4, but still a roll of the dice. It's that way for most of us. Remember this year's acceptance rate was like 13.2%. </p>

<p>It will depend largely on the distinctiveness of your application as manifested in your essays, the way you represent your ECs and your letters of recommendation. </p>

<p>I would focus heavily on your passion for and accomplishments in foreign languages, and your international experiences. Tie them to specific Dartmouth strengths in these areas. Make contact with folks in D's language departments and visit with them when on campus. </p>
