What are my chances?...

Hi! I am a new member and this is my first post. Here is my list of colleges:

Ramapo (definitely a safety)
Rutgers
TCNJ (College of New Jersey)
Drew
Trinity College
Connecticut College
Washington and Lee
William and Mary

I attend a VERY selective public high school in New Jersey, Bergen Academy. We go to school from 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM, although this year we only go until 4:10 PM. On Wednesdays seniors go to internships instead of classes, and I am interning at Merrill Lynch in Private Client Wealth Management. Also, on Wednesdays freshmen, sophmores, and juniors have Projects, which are basically two-hour classes that are once a week, and Clubs, which are one hour (so seniors can't be in Wednesday clubs). Since the school day is so long, we take a lot of electives. My school is very selective- you must apply in 8th grade and you are not allowed to come after the first day of ninth grade. I believe the average SAT is around a 1310. It is one school- Bergen Academy- but there are seven academies in it, and I am in the Academy for Business and Finance. I take standard honors courses and then two business courses a year (other academies are science, engineering, medical, performing, etc.). My grades were a bit low in freshman and sophomore years, but have improved a lot...

More information about me:

I am a 17 year old high school senior from Northern New Jersey. I am white, upper middle class, and only speak English. So I don't really have the whole diversity thing working for me...thanks in advance!

go to ramapo for instant decision..... they will give u money and really good food for the day

ramapo is a last resort. i am 99% positive i will not end up there.

I would think that you would make it into Drew and Rutgers pretty easily. You more than likely will get into TCNJ. The others I am not sure about. Have you decided that business is no longer for you?

what are you looking to major in?
you're definitely in to all of those schools except conn coll, trinity and W&L, which are reachy.

ramapo only has a 40% acceptance rate

Bergen Academies huh....Is this the one with AAST?

yes, there are seven academies and business (abf) is one of them, aast is another.

I want to attend a LAC, where I would major in Econ. Some schools, like W&L, William and Mary, and TCNJ, do have a business major, so I would do that if I attended one of those.

I'm confident about Ramapo, Rutgers, Drew, and TCNJ (my score is slightly above average and my school has a great relationship with TCNJ). I like Trinity and Conn and think Trinity is a match/reach and Conn is a reach. I don't like them as much as W&L and William and Mary though. Those are both reaches (I'm out of state for William and Mary).

I've been going to evening information sessions, campus tours, interviews, overnight visits, etc. at each school (depending on each school's offerings), so hopefully that will help as well. As of now I like W&L the best and am interviewing in November.

I know that W&L, William and Mary, and Conn are reaches (though I don't care as much about Conn), but is Trinity a reach? I know that it is a safety for many people applying to Ivies, but Trinity's ACT range is 26-29 (I have a 31), I am above their average reading SAT score, and am in the range for the math SAT score. Also, I heard Trinity is big on community service, and I have done a lot of that (especially the Landmark Volunteer New Mexico trip). I know I can't say it's a definite match or that I will definitely get in, but is it closer to a match or at least to a match/reach than to a reach?

Also, how is W&L looking? A reach, yes, but...a likely one? Hopefully my interview and handwritten notes will help. Also, one of the teachers writing my recs (a business teacher) has some connections there.

please let me know what you think!

Sounds like a great school! Wish I went there

Thanks, johnny1010220. It has been an interesting experience. It is more interesting going to school with such a motivated student body.

I'm going to do immediate decision at Ramapo in December. It's not binding and that way I'll know I'm in somewhere- thanks for the suggestion, ericg1.

I'm (hopefully) sending in my Rutgers application tonight or tomorrow, so that will be out of the way, too. I still like W&L the best, hopefully that will work out.

nelson- good choice to attend.... it was just a fun day. they made you feel very welcomed

Bump...Please tell me what you think, especially about W&L

Bump! Please tell me what you think

Okay, I will give you my opinion. I think you are easily in at Ramapo, Rutgers, Drew and the College of Connecticut. TCNJ is a match/reach depending on if they are counting writing this year. If they are, then you are in. Washington and Lee and William and Mary are reaches if they are not counting the writing section. If they are, you have a better chance. This is a rough idea, I am not very familiar with some of these. Have you asked you gc?

Update!

I was accpeted at Ramapo and given full tuition and fees (I'd just have to pay room and board). I was also accepted at Rutgers New Brunswick, which hasn't given out scholarships yet. Yesterday, I got my letter from Drew- I was accepted and given a $14,300 merit scholarship. I'm still waiting from the rest. I really want to go to W&L!

congrats :) Hope you'll get accepted at W&L! My first choice is TCNJ and I'm still waiting to hear from them. Have you been accepted there yet?
