DS wants to major in Business. Thinking about Kelley School @ Ind U.
Smeal @ Penn State, U of Wisconsin,
Tulane. What are your thoughts? Suggestions?
Mentioned Maryland, Delaware. DS wants big school. He would like U of Florida or U of Miami.
Low GPA from goofing off in 10th grade.
Grrrrroooaaannnn...
Advice needed!
Thanks :)

And - we live on the east coast. DS will go south and to the Midwest . He would love to go to California, but that’s too far.

I am most familiar with Miami, may ev en go there myself. I think it’s a match. GPA is below average but SAT is above average. It’s not a big school though, 200 acre campus and 10,000 undergrads. Perfect size in my opinion.

Interesting… I thought my son wouldn’t have a shot at U of Miami! Any other schools that seem like “safe” or a quasi- reach? Filling out the common app today- let the games begin!

My DD has the exact stats, looking at the University of Tampa because I think U of Miami would be too much. Your son should be in at Indiana not sure about the business school. University of Florida looks to be a reach but he could get into Florida State. She will apply for U of Wisconsin but I think her chances are slim. She is not sure what she wants to study so it makes it hard to decide where to apply. Good luck to your son.

Miami’s SAT scores are between 1270 and 1410. The average GPA is a 4.20. I have a 1340/1990 and 4.1 GPA and am certain I’ll get in.

If he really wants to go there and you can afford it apply ED.

Right now his top choices (if a perfect world) Wisconsin, Tulane(doubtful!)Kelley school @ Indiana, Penn State - Sandusky fiasco put a big damper on it though…
He’s taking 2-3 AP classes this Senior Year. Physics, Macro Econ, H College Calc. Does this help? …even for Miami?

It would help if he got a good gpa in those courses and then applied regular decision. If he applies early to any school senior grades won’t matter; I do think they take note of the courses he plans to take — not 100% on this though.

UW and IU both accept 70% of applicants so that’s good if they’re top choices.

Maybe you should post this in the Parents forums. This forum is typically frequented by stressed high school students (I am one )and they might be better able to make recommendations and stuff.
