What are my possibilities of getting into UVA

Unlike the others before me, it is going to take a miracle for me to be accepted into UVA. My grades really scare me. I have a 3.43 as of right now. I am depending on the first semester of my senior year to get my gpa beyond a 3.5 . I am 86 out of 398 in my class. I got a 1590 on the SATs but it was only my first time taking it. I am taking the SATs over again in a few weeks and I am taking the ACT soon. Umm, I joined a few clubs last year. I am in the National Honor Society and I am in Academic Challenge Club. I also performed in our Peninsula Youth Orchestra. I am in Tri-M for my instrument, the baritone. I made all-district band twice. I have also been a section leader during Marching Band season and I have been selected again for the title. I took 2 AP classes last year, AP U.S. History and AP English, and I am taking 4 AP classes this year AP English, AP Government, AP Biology and AP Calculus. I just recently started volunteering at a hospital. That's all I have going for myself. So, what are my chances so far???

1590/1600 or 1590/2400???

out of 2400

Considering your SAT of right now, and your GPA I think your chances are pretty slim. Are you in stante or out of state?

I am in state

Are you a praying man?

Thomas, unless you are a minority, your chances are virtually 0. There are plenty of other colleges in-state that might be a good fit for you.

I am black

what other colleges would be a good "fit" for me?

I think as a minority, your chances improve considerably. You're by no means a certain admit, but I think you've got a shot.

Good shot if you are black, especially with your EC's, and a good essay. I know a black kid who got in with an 1150 on the old SAT

"I am black"

nice. now you do have a shot. apply by all means. improve your SAT score.....it'll help you even more. emphasize on DIVERSITY on the essay, UVa admins love that.

Going ED would really impress them, I think. Others may want to chime in, because I am not 100% sure.

I'd say you have a pretty decent shot given this information

My friend got in with a 1520 (out of 2400) and a mid-term grade of a D in STATS and an F in Calculus.

What was the deal with your friend? Was he a football player? Or the son of a major donor?

No, she was a C.S.

C.S.? What do you mean by that?

Casteen Scholar

You have a decent shot, but you should still improve your SAT score some. If you're from an area that isn't as fortunate, like some parts of Richmond, etc, it may help you too. If you are considering UVA, consider W&M too if you want to stay close to home. You mentioned Peninsula somewhere, so I think you're from the Bad News or Hampton.
