My son recently applied ERA to Notre Dame and we are trying to figure out what his chances of admission might be. He has a 4.18 gpa and received a 36 on the ACT. He is team captain of his varsity swim team and has been all state for three years. He also participates in USA swimming and has been a state and sectional qualifier. He is in National Honor Society, is a freshman mentor, and a Spanish club member. He has participated in Youth Advisory Council and has received several school level academic awards. He was also a member of Homecoming Court. He has volunteered at local Christian school and is currently training to be a hospice volunteer. He is ranked sixth in his class. He has taken a total of six AP classes. His letters of recommendation were excellent and we think his essays were excellent as well. We have heard that it is very difficult for white males to get in. What do you feel his chances might be? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
I should also mention that we are from Michigan and his unweighted gpa is 4.0
He looks like a stellar candidate. Good luck to him!
As long as he’s shown demonstrated interested by visiting campus, meeting with Admission Reps or attending a local ND visit he has a great chance. My daughter is a freshman and just loves the ND experience.
I would not try to chance anyone, but your son’s qualifications seem very similar to my daughter’s who was accepted during early admission and is a junior at ND now. We are also from MI and see had a 36 ACT composite. Best of luck.
In the last 3 years, no one at my HS has gotten rejected by Notre Dame with an ACT score of 36 (5-for-5). That data is from Naviance. Your son’s activities/volunteer work look good, and he’s got a 4.0 and an ok number of APs. Given the crapshoot that is college admissions, there are no sure things, but your son seems well positioned. Good luck!
PS - I haven’t heard that Notre Dame is any more difficult for white males than any other highly-ranked school when it comes to admissions. Obviously, being a white male applicant at ND doesn’t help per se, but doubtful it really hurts.
Best of luck to your son! My son applied REA as well. Go Irish!
He looks like a strong candidate. You should be very proud of him.
