For some reason, I've only known NYU for Arts related majors.
Drama, music, theatre, dance, community service.
What about the sciences?
Is NYU good for science related majors?

Tisch has all the drama, music, theatre programs you were talking about

Stern is the business school and has some of the top undergrad business programs in the country - it’s best known for Finance

Steinhardt has strong programs in education and communications/media

CAS has like the #1 philosophy and applied math programs; economics, journalism, and international relations are really strong too. of the sciences, I would say chem is our best program (but i’m biased as a chem major). I mean, NYU is overall a good college so our programs in biology, biochem, neural science, physics, and chem are pretty good. They’re not “top science programs” though, like you would find in Johns Hopkins or someplace. But for Undergrad, it doesn’t make a difference.

As far as NYU majors, top programs doesn’t mean the best education. NYU is known for Courant (Institute of Mathematical sciences) but my math major friend says the teaching overall is pretty weak - top mathematicians don’t make the best teachers.

Overall I’m happy with the Chem department. There’s been 2 profs here in particular who really made a big difference in my college life (1 is a Chem prof, another is a Bio prof). I hated Chemistry in HS, I did so poorly in regular chem they wouldn’t let me take AP. Now I’m getting a BS in Chemistry and acing all of my college chem and physics courses…it’s kind of funny because i used to hate science before i came to NYU. I intended to study Econ when I came here…

As far as science courses go, the most brilliant researchers are often the worst professors. The prof I’m currently doing research with is a horrible prof, imo (but I love working with him). There’s plenty of research opportunities if you’re interested in that. The one bad thing is Intro classes have huge lecture halls - but there’s smaller required recitations (taught by TA’s).

Also, a lot of science majors and preMeds dread Orgo, but many students at NYU love Orgo - it’s the class that made me decide I’m definitely studying Chem.

Oh, thank you very much.
Wish I could major in Chemistry, too.
Because I love it.

Can you tell me more about NYU’s Biochem major?
If you can find out, that it.

I get what you mean by great researchers and great professors not being the same.
That’s important…

Hey, did you see The Princeton Review on NYU?
Why is it listed in “Colleges with Least Happy Students”?
Aren’t students happy in there?
