Are there any fields (such as science, humanities, politics) that Princeton is known best for? If so, what are they and how will they affect my chances of becoming accepted?

no just no

Preppypolitics (really?), Princeton is strong across the board in the arts and sciences. Here is an analysis of the findings of the National Research Councils most recent study.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/1006939-princeton-2010-national-research-council-nrc-rankings-news-item.html?highlight=national+research+council

Princeton, unlike its peers, does not have professional schools of law, business and medicine. It likely never will. Its mission has long been established as an institution devoted to research (both fundamental and applied) and teaching.

@OREngineering: exactly my thoughts
Some people just can’t stop looking for an easy way.
Well, with Princeton there isn’t. (Unless you’re a female into STEM fields but that’s only for females and that’s the same case in sooo many other colleges).

@Ghastn: Can you explain the female in STEM fields, can’t get that point

ghastn is alluding to the fact that top women applicants to certain STEM fields are valued in that they are under represented.

Almost all of Princeton’s departments are like top ten or twenty, and around half are top 2.

Specifically ones that stand out in my mind are…
Physics, Math (perhaps tops in world), Economics, Woodrow Wilson School, Molecular Biology, ORFE, CBE (for its smaller size its amazing), Classics, Philosophy, EEB, Chemistry…

But that’s just because of the people I hang out with. Princeton’s Chinese program is amazing, for instance. Art and Archaeology is great. Comparative Literature and English… History… Politics…

There’s no weak department if that’s what you’re asking.

This is why Princeton > Yale and Harvard. Princeton’s as good or better than Yale and Harvard at social sciences, natural sciences, and humanities but significantly better at math/engineering.

They are #1 for my field, history.

BiologyMaster says something quite true. That and the size of the school. And the location;).
