I was just wondering if neone could give me a description of the students at Rice... r the students competitive/laidback... what is the school like for political activism... what is the social life like... r the students mostly white/minorities/etc... basically nething u feel like sharing about the student body

Generalizing about an entire student population is never going to be accurate.

But Rice students are obviously all intelligent. There is a good amount of work here, but students are all generally cooperative. You won't see any cutthroat competition here.

Politically students tend to be liberal, as is expected from a top-tier college. However, Rice's student population is a bit more conservative than other schools of its caliber. The campus isn't especially politically active although you can definitely find that if that is your thing.

The campus is very diverse, racially and financially. And whats more important, Rice has very good interaction between these different segments. Princeton Review considers it one of the best schools in the nation with regard to that though those rankings should always be taken with a grain of salt.

Social life revolves around residential colleges(think Hogwarts). You will come to know all of you the people in your year at your college and the majority of there period.

As a parent, kids at Rice really are pleasant to be around. If you get lost on campus, everyone is eager to help out. They don't treat you as if you are invisible just because you are old and grey... My daughter has found interesting, funny people all over campus.

It's been a while since I've been on CC. Rice students--there's a whole mix of them and a whole mix of random and different people. There are people who hangout on online forums and people who don't know what online forums are. There are people who pretend they don't know what online forums are and hang out on them behind their back. There are people who just ignore this message and go back to facebook.

But seriously, I believe most students here are competitive but fewer students are as outward about their competitiveness. Many students here were the more intelligent ones in their classes, and I also find that many students here were the more quiet/awkward types in their High Schools (like myself, if I may say so... myself).

Being an international student as I am, I definitely would say that the racial differences (in terms of student population) are quite blurred. You do tend to find your friends and hang out with people like yourself, but I guess that is more out of natural instinct. I did study in an international setting for the last 10 years, though, which is probably why I don't notice this as much.
