What are some college "Essentials"?

<p>There is a stickied thread on this section that has a comprehensive packing list. Check that out.</p>

<p>Other than that, the essentials vary from person to person. For example, I am a resident assistant, to the things I absolutely must have when I move in are:

  • Construction paper
  • Printer
  • Glue sticks
  • Stapler
  • Markers
  • Coloured pencils
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Computer
  • along with clothes, toiletries, towel, etc…</p>

<p>Think of the things you absolutely can’t live without. Be it your laptop, mp3 player, duct tape, duster, etc. </p>

<p>There are things that I would recommend you always have in your room:

  • light snacks
  • drinkable (filtered or packaged) water
  • torch
  • blank paper (lined, printer paper, scrap paper, etc)
  • power strip with built-in circuit breaker
  • some sort of alarm (could be your phone, an alarm clock, tv timer, w/e)
  • small toolbox
  • extra towel (it sucks to have to do laundry and realize that you don’t have a towel to shower that day…)
  • quarters or loose change
  • Planner of some sort
  • duct tape
  • super glue</p>

<p>It’s always been the following list for me:</p>

<li>Backpack</li>
<li>Pen/paper</li>
<li>Cell phone and/or alarm</li>
<li>Clothes (at least 3 days worth, preferably more to do laundry)</li>
<li>Toothbrush / toothpaste / soap / shampoo</li>
<li>Towel</li>
</ul>

<p>Give me all of those, and I’m good to go pretty much anywhere. Best part: they all fit in a single backpack.</p>

<p>^^Kalied’s list is pretty comprehensive and again some of those things simply change from person to person.</p>

2 Towels
Bottled Water
Light Snacks
Toothbrush
Cell Phone
Laptop
Toothpaste
Various clothes
Soap
A few books
Nintendo DS</p>

<p>Here’s a few things I forgot freshman year that would have made it a lot easier:
-large supply of quarters (laundry and parking)
-iron and ironing board
-quality (not cheap) towels

  • accordion file
    -printer
    -a ton of those cheap plastic storage bins</p>
