..that I can register to satisfy my credit requirement while having fun?
thanks for responses!

You can take music lessons at Steinhardt for 2 credits!

that sounds very interesting bc i was going to join a chorus anyway! could you please give me some details about it?

I'm still a pre-frosh, so I don't know all the specifics, but I'll try to help. It's free if you're in Steinhardt; otherwise you have to pay about $70/semester (but this works out to less than $5 per lesson). The lessons are taught by grad students, I think. There is more information about lessons in this nyu livejournal entry. If you have an account, you could ask for more information in that community as well.

thats awesome! i do wanna do that. can we take them freshman year? do you know what all instruments are offered?

I've been taking Steinhardt music lessons for the last few years, 2 or 4 credits a semester as my schedule allows. It can be a lot of fun and a good way of boosting your GPA. :D I participated in orchestra my first year here, and I've been studying the guitar. (Mike Macallister and Gabe Cummins are great teachers!) After a quick glance through Albert, it seems like 1, 2, or 4 credit courses in the following are open to non-Steinhardt students:

composition
music theory
keyboard harmony improvisation
voice (private or group)
wind instruments
string instruments (private or group)
orchestra
chamber ensembles
some music tech

That's obviously just a brief run-through, and I could be wrong about all of those being open to non-Steinhardt students. However, I do know that string, voice, orchestra, and piano courses are definitely available.

wat about drums?

Percussion is for music majors only. :( (Otherwise, I definitely would've tried a semester!)

interviewing strategies (communications) is 2 credits
