What are some Stable Careers in Asset Management/Investing/Finance?

Hi there,

So I was just wondering, I am a biology major in college, but i have always been interested in the stock market, how bonds work and investing etc. So in the back of my mind I have always thought about a career in business if i ever get sick of being pre-med.

I have read a lot about investment banking, and I don't mind high stress long hour jobs, in fact I work best in those conditions cause im the type of person that needs to be "kept on my toes." However, I was turned off to the fact that it's an unstable career, as you either move up the ladder from associate to VP to MD or you get out of investment banking, and generally not many people are in it for long term.

What are some careers in business that deal with investing in stocks/bonds ETFS or asset management in general but are also stable?

IB is different than Asset Management. If you are interested in the market you will probably be more interested in the Trader or AM path. There are plenty of roles in operations at financial firms where you can have a fairly stable career.

With that being said, all top tier financial firms are ridiculously competitive and you have thousands of people competing for a few spots. It will be very difficult to just “get sick of premed” and expect to get offers from these firms.
