I have taken the PSAT in October and got a 1040 on it which is not very good. I would like to aim for around 1300-1400s when I take the real SATs. I would like to know some effective ways to improve your SAT scores. I currently have 4 SAT prep books and will be taking an SAT prep class from March-May. I want to know what are some good and effective ways to help improve my SAT scores. I got a 610 on math and 430 on evidence-based reading and writing.
If you are going to be doing prep classes, that’s probably better than some person giving you advice online.
The only thing you need to succeed in tha SAT is to practice, practice and practice. Solve all the college board practice tests and know why your answer is right and why it is wrong. Also, Use the same methods they use to solve the questions because they are usually quicker and easier. You can also do this with other practice books such as prinston. If you do this you will reach your goal.
First of all, you may find more advice if you post and look around the SAT and ACT prep forum.
You need to understand why you’re missing questions - is it because of the time constraints, not knowing the material, or a combination? For knowledge gaps, you have to see what exactly you’re tested in and know that material thoroughly. Once you did that, you still may have problems because of the timing. The only thing you can do for that is to practice a lot and take your practice tests under the same conditions as you would by the actual test.
For reading, I’ve found that people that enjoy reading and do it often frequently get higher marks. If you could, start reading in your free time.
Also, the best practice tests to take are the ones in the official College Board book. Other test prep companies’ tests may not be an accurate representation of the test. I believe Barron’s is commonly regarded as harder and some other companies as easier.
If you haven’t, sign up for Khan Academy. You can send your PSAT scores to them and they create a study plan for you.
Good luck!
