What are the 48 transferable semester unit?

Hello! i am an international student and currently living in Indonesia, I really want to go to USC Film and Television production, but considering the high tuition and all, I decided to go to City College of New York to take Film and Video Production for 2 years then I’ll transfer to USC. But in CCNY, I need to spend 2 years before accepted in the BFA Program. However, in order to be considered for admission, i must first obtain 48 transferable semester units. What are they? Will I be able to obtain them during my time in CCNY? Thank you!

You need to contact USC (or any other school) directly to see what they require of their transfer students
for your specific major.
Different schools may have differing requirements.
Some require that all general education requirement be completed while others may be more flexible.
The information is generally available on each schools respective web site.

Be sure that any school you’re hoping to attend after CCNY, will accept the credits from CCNY.
Typically, schools will accept courses that are equal to one of their courses, but that’s not always something that you can know in advance, so it’s good to contact a Transfer counselor at your target school(s).
Because of that, you need to BE SURE that you retain the course descriptions from the course catalogue
of the year you’ve taken the class, so that you can submit it with any applications.

One thing you also need to keep in mind, however, is that while you’re targeting USC, there are other schools
that will provide you with comparable production experiences.
Because of the low admission rates, be sure to apply widely when the time comes.

48 units usually equals general ed coursework and some major preparation:
Freshman year
Semester 1=12 units, 4 classes
Semester 2=12 units 4 classes
subtotal =24 units

Sophomore year
Semester 3 = 12 units, 4 classes
Semester 4=12 units, 4 classes
subTotal=24 units

FRESHMAN year =24 units
SOPHOMORE year=24 units
Total = 48 units

You cannot assume that you will easily transfer into USC. The *School of Film/Television * at USC is extremely competitive and very difficult to be admitted into. You need to double-check and make sure they will accept your grades/credits from CCNY. Speak with a transfer counselor. Plus, make sure you have the funds to attend. At $72K per year, it will be tough.

Note that 12 units is the minimum “full time” course load, but 15-16 units is the number you must average to finish in 8 semesters (120-128 units needed, depending on the university).
