Transferring Into Cinematic Arts - BFA or BA?

Hey everyone,

Not sure how obvious the answer to this question is, but is there any way one can transfer into the Cinematic Arts program for Film Production for a BFA, or are transfers only limited to the BA? Also, why is this?

I'm pretty unenlightened when it comes to the transfer process; is it even possible for one to transfer into Cinematic Arts? I am currently a freshman at New York University (Tisch) so I don't know if I have to wait or even if my credits will transfer. Whatever counsel anyone has is really appreciated!

*EDIT: I just looked and I see there are similar threads about transferring, so I apologize in advance if any of this is redundant.

The BFA degree is a pretty new program, so here’s the word from the website:
*effective beginning Fall 2013
Note: the BFA in Production is available to incoming freshmen only. Transfer students should apply to the BA in Production. - See more at: http://cinema.usc.edu/production/bfarequirements.cfm#sthash.YSUNEbde.dpuf

Most BFA programs have larger unit requirements, are 4 years of sequenced classes, and often taken with the same cohort that entered together freshman year–no way to catch up if you come in a different year.

Thanks madbean. Do you know if it’s possible to have an opportunity to transfer as an incoming sophomore (if I finish my freshman year at NYU)

The answer is right on their website - can you transfer into production as a sophomore - unlikely even with Tisch credits. But the only way to know if there are exceptions is to call them. But I doubt it. Here’s a quote from the page for external transfers to Film and TV production at SCA.

48 units that don’t include college credits from high school is a pretty high hurdle to overcome in a single year. Even if you had them, the competition to get into the school is pretty high in terms of sheer numbers of students attempting the same thing (not to mention internal transfers).
