what are the advantages of applying early?

..compared to someone who applies around 3 months from now after receiving the october SAT score.
I am really confused and not sure whether to wait or apply now.
thanks for any help.

It makes no difference. This is assuming you are going to be. a hs senior next year. You can always send your sat score in after you apply if you do better that time. I see no point in applying now though.

There are two types of early admissions
[Early Decision - Early Action - apply to colleges, search](<a href=“College Board - SAT, AP, College Search and Admission Tools”>Facts About Applying Early Decision or Early Action – BigFuture)

Read this.
Is this what you are looking for?

If not, well, sending in scores early doesn’t make any difference. In fact, it is better for you to send in everything at once because it reduces the chance of messing up and losing your documents.

So send in when you are ready. This is why I don’t use the free SAT score sender program when you take your SAT. I’d spend money just to send in the scores manually after I decided which to apply. This way I can keep track of which one I sent.

===
If you take December and you still want to submit your December score (and the college accepts it, which is 99.99% for regular admission), yes, you can still send you the score.

the link says applying in november is early.
I thought if I apply in aug-sep when the applications are out is called early !

can anyone correct me ?

It really all depends on how good your current SAT score is and if you think the Oct score will really make a huge difference for admission. And you can still submit your Oct score if there is a big increase.

With some schools, the earlier you apply, the better chance you have of getting in and the sooner you are likely to get a decision. At Penn State’s admissions orientation, they clearly stated that admission gets harder the closer you get to the final deadline.

My son took his 2nd SAT in June and had most of his applications completed before Oct 1. Then he did 2 last minute ones before Nov 30. He had a couple of acceptances right away (rolling admissions schools), and had another 4 acceptances by early Dec. The rest came in the spring. Getting the applications done early took the stress off, and getting those answers early took away the worry.

my current sat score is too bad to submit so there is no point submitting it.

so for me,applying early would mean submitting all required docs except the SAT score which would mean I applied when the applications were out,i guess ; even though I submit the SAT score later.

Okay - so you need the Oct SAT score. That doesn’t keep you from submitting all the other documents (application, essay, transcript, letters of recommendation, etc). Those items can take some time to put together. I would certainly not wait until you get your Oct score.

Do the things that are in your control (application, essay, list of activities, whatever) and submit those. At the same time, start requesting the other things (transcripts, letters). Then, the Oct SAT score is the final item and that is sent straight from the College Board (altho you may have to pay to have additional scores sent).

Monitor the submission of these things on the schools’ websites (you can do this with most). If you are not sure something has arrived - call the school and check. In 2 cases, schools had my son’s transcript but had failed to log it in.

If all goes well, you’ll be completely done by mid-late Oct.
