I know I’ll have to deal with it when I get there, but using any bathroom but my own makes me uneasy. I’m just wondering which dorm would suit me the best in terms of bathrooms. Thanks!
Also, if it’s a floor bathroom, is there an area to change right outside of your shower? I know most floors are co-ed, so I don’t want to be walking to my room in a towel.
Kind of surprised nobody responded to this. My guess is that the bathroom situation at co-ed dorms is one of the top questions from incoming freshmen and their parents, so I would be surprised if you aren’t able to find good info on this by asking the housing office.
Thanks, I’ll check that out too, but I wanted to know from a more personal account also.
My son lived in Unit 3. They had co-ed bathrooms. He was worried about it but it ended up not to be an issue. The walls between bathroom stalls and showers, go from floor to ceiling. Evidently they have been co-ed since at least the 70’s when a friend of mine lived in Unit 3.
@tx5athome My D is in Unit 1 and would have been fine with a co-ed bathroom situation, but wound up by chance on the only female floor. Not knowing OP, this may or may not be an option. I did the co-ed bathroom thing as a parent when I went to orientation and it wasn’t a big deal (although I did get one dad who felt a bit odd). The showers have locking doors and the bathroom stalls are very private. Some stalls may have “standing only” designation to move people in and out quicker. D does know someone who’s parents wanted her on the all-girls floor but didn’t manage it and yet still wanted her to walk up to that floor to use the all-girl bathroom - I don’t think this arrangement lasted very long!
Co-ed is extremely common in a lot of colleges these days, as it has been for a while at some schools. Back in the 80’s, I visited a female friend at CSULB in a suite who was sharing a bathroom with guys - seemed kind of weird to me, but she was fine with it. I think you get used to it very quickly.
