help me I’m poor
Where have you already looked for scholarships?
What grade are you in now?
What is your GPA and ACT or SAT?
You’re a junior, tell us more.
Your stats
Your home state
Your major or career interests
do you hae a non-custodial parent?
are you a citizen or green card holder?
The best awards are from colleges…based on need or merit.
I’ve contacted my school but they say they will not provide scholarship forms or anything. I’ve signed up for many different scholarship websites and such.
I am a junior. I am a female. I am 16. I live in upstate New York and I have a 4.4 GPA. I am a Us citizen. My parents are separated. I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet, but I am an AP student. I’m looking to end up at Barnard or Amherst College… I just ultimately am doing this on my own!
Your best bet is to do well on SAT / ACT - many schools have merit $$$ for scores above a certain threshold. Did you take PSAT last fall? High scores on PSAT can qualify you for NMSF. Odd that your school says they will not provide scholarship forms. Most high schools provide forms for all sorts of local scholarships. Browse the websites of neighboring high schools. Lots post links to scholarships. Check local Credit Unions as well. Many offer scholarships to members - but to be a member all you need to do is open an account with $1. Depending on your ethnic background (Italian, Irish, etc.) there are other scholarships you can apply for. There are Girl Scout scholarships, scholarships for relatives of military, etc.etc. Cast a wide net. Good luck.

No, not your school (except for some that you GC might know about)
You need to take the SAT and ACT soon to know what your stats are.
The best awards are from the universities that you will apply to.
Your parents are separated and that may be a problem. Will your non-custodial parent help pay for college? Does he pay child support?
You are a HS junior, right? Most scholarships are for seniors.
Will you be Pell Grant eligible? If so, look at the Gates Millenium Scholarship.you will apply fall of your senior year at the earliest.
NYS Stem incentive program
The best place to find scholarship $ is from the college itself. Look at the pinned threads at the top of this forum for some full tuition scholarships and the stats required.
You should look into Questbridge. Even if you don’t qualify financially, their partner schools all meet 100% of your demonstrated need. You should focus on 100% need schools and public schools that give substantial merit aid. If you really are poor, your GC should be able to set you up with fee waivers for the ACT and SAT.
Barnard and Amherst award need based aid and meet full need, You can run the Net Price Calculators to get an estimate of what they would cost you.
Just be aware that the net price calculators up now are for the 2015-2016 school year. They will be updated likely in September 2015 for the 2016-2017 school year. Financial aid policies do change sometimes…so just use this year’s as a rough estimate.
Also Barnard and Amherst both use the CSS profile and the non-custodial profile in order to give their own institutional aid. This means you must have the income and assets of both of your parents in order to receive financial aid.
