What are the chances for UC Berkley, GeorgiaTech,Carnegi melon for Electrical & Computer Engineering

High school Junior has GPA of 4+, ACT of 35 (working on SAT), AP classes (Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Composition, Statistics) done (or working).
Background - asian
Decent volunteering and extracurricular on resume.

Thanks in advance.

you’d have to provide a lot more detail in order to get any type of answer
off the top, you haven’t mentioned anything special or out of the ordinary

He needs to calculate his UC GPA, Unweighted, Capped weighted and Fully weighted for the UC’s at the end of Junior year to get the best idea of his chances. His ACT is very competitive but what specifically are his EC’s/Volunteering. What about AP scores and SAT subject test scores?

Definitely on the right track but until he completes his Junior year, impossible to chance without all the pertinent data.

Thanks for replies. Very helpful.

Why would you take the SAT with an ACT of 35? That time could go into moving ECs from decent to meaningful.

An ACT of 35 has a concordance of 1540. I don’t think it would hurt to give it at least one shot at the SAT for something higher.

Thanks all for the advice. Son is focusing more on the AP classes and ECs. He may retake ACT and also take SAT but not spending too much time on those.

In state for Cal?

This may sound facetious, but make sure that your son spells the names of the schools correctly, although it appears that you’re writing this on his behalf. It will look bad on the essays if he spells the school names the way you do.

Really hard to chance this. If he wants EECS, you have to have top notch ECs or some type of award, especially since he is an Asian Male. As stated above, I think it would be worth a try on the SAT. Just do it without studying.
