My son got his SAT score - 2120 (CR-650, Math-800, Writing 670)
His GPA Unweighted - 3.85 weighted 4.45
IB (middle and high school). 4th degree blackbelt. working at kumon for one year. That's all.
Waiting for SAT-II (Math, Chem) & ACT.

Is he looking at highly selective departments at those universities (ie. STEM programs, or possibly Business)? If not, then I’d say he should get into Davis and UCSD easily, and probably will also get into UCLA. His prospects are good, but not as certain for the “impacted” programs. My son was accepted into Davis and UCSD with lower stats, from out-of-state, but he only applied to the regular Arts & Sciences colleges. He did not apply to UCLA, but did apply to Berkeley, and was rejected.

He has good chances but it is likely that he will be rejected from UCLA because of lack of extracurricular activities unless he invested a lot of time in those few.

Thank you for your inputs. UC GPA is 4.07 and hopefully it will be 4.12 by senior year.He is looking for Engineering in UC (Electrical) or Maths.
I agree, we should have paid more attention towards ECs. Now, it is what it is. 8 years of taikwondo, 6 years of dance, treasurer for a community service club and some teaching experience.I wish, we had pushed him for FBLA, robotics.
Also, does recommendation, essay matter for UC?
