I am taking English 101 this year, but I completely failed it on accident (not senioritis). I have never been good at English and all my other grades are A's. What are my chances of being kicked out? My GPA fell by .05, and the packet sent to me said that I can't let it fall by more than .1.

So what are my chances of being kicked out? I am seriously getting nervous about that whole thing...

rabbit…Was this a college level English course you were taking while in HS? The 101 course designation looks a little strange for a HS senior. Does failing this class affect your ability to graduate HS on time? According to their website, U of Minn requires 4 years of HS English from their applicants. Will you still meet that requirement without credit for this class?

In any case, I don’t think the slight drop in your GPA is the issue, but the F on your transcript may be unfortunately. Many universities allow a couple of C’s and maybe a D, but an F is certainly going to catch their attention. I’d recommend you call Admissions ASAP on Monday and ask the question. Whatever the answer turns out to be, you’re going to want to know sooner rather than later. From the U’s website:

Wolverine86, thanks for the reply. I will still graduate from high school with honors on time, as I took English I in 8th grade, so I made it up to AP Lit last year. It is a college level class, and I took it with distance learning. Of course I know I will have to retake it next year, but I certainly hope I will be taking the class in U of M next year! In other words, nothing changes except a single very bad grade. I still graduate ok and my GPA will not take a massive hit (.05 points).

Will they overlook the F or will they watch me carefully next year? Either way, I won’t let it happen next year and I was just caught off guard with the workload and strictness of the professor. Of course senior year didn’t help at all, but my other grades are perfect and I want to know what the chances are of being kicked out?

I think if your other stuff looks good they’ll let you off the hook, which college are you going to? I think the CLA would be more lenient than others like CBS…

I originally applied for a biology major in CBS, but they were full and accepted me with a biology and the environment major in CLA. I was hoping to move back into CBS, or at least overlap my courses until I officially can. My biology grade is good, so will they forget the bad English grade and just make me retake?
