I think I’m a pretty smart, well educated chick. However, I am also the type to believe that school is not the ONLY way to be considered “intelligent”. Anyway, i maintained a 2.8, 2.6 and 2.5 all throughout my undergrad years in college. In the classes that I FELT IMPORTANT, I did well in but not so good in some other courses.
I want to go to graduate school to get my masters and have a career in the criminal justice/law enforcement field and eventually maybe law school in the future. What do you think are my chances of being accepted into graduate school with an overall 2.5 gpa?
And if my chances are slim, what other options do I have as far as having and working towards a career in the law/criminal justice/laws enforcement field? I really don’t want to struggle the rest of my life, working a regular 9 to 5 job just because I messed up in my undergrad years. I really want my MASTERS. I just turned 22 last month after I graduated college with my B.S in criminal justice.
Chances are pretty slim, especially if you just recently graduated. The best ways to recover from a low GPA are 1) put some time in between you and the low GPA, so that you can plausibly say that you’ve changed a lot since you were in undergrad and are better prepared for the rigors of grad school; and 2) take some graduate-level classes as a non-degree student to show that you can succeed.
What do you you think you’re going to do with a master’s degree? I have a PhD and I work a 9 to 5 job. Most people do, regardless of educational level. My sister-in-law has an MS in criminal justice and she also works a pretty regular job - she’s a correctional officer at a prison, but she works 3 to 11 and lives a pretty regular life. What is it that you are expecting to do?
Most police officers and law enforcement officers don’t have master’s degrees. You can always start out your career without one and go back and get one later.
