Hi, so i was wondering if i can still get into my top choices for college. Im a Junior this year, however i got a C+ in Hnrs. Geometry in freshman year and i think im on par for another C+ in Hnrs. Physics.
I like to challenge myself, however my physics teacher can not teach, most of my other class mates are also struggling so idk, i mean i try so hard too i dont get why errr
Im pretty well-rounded, i do tennis and soccer, while im in many clubs as well. I have 800+ hours of voulnteer from CFA, Library, Hospital, and Boy Scouts.
Im in all honors and ap’s except Spanish, in all of them i have all A’s and high B’s
I took one AP last year, AP Comp Sci: i got a 4 on it
On my Sat’s i got a 2250 im waiting my act scores
For major im between: business, comp sci, bio-medical engineering
Now for colleges i am gonna apply to: Northeastern, Boston University, Drexel, Rutgers, GA Tech, UCLA, U Michigan, NJIT for now…
so will my C’s hurt me alot when applying to college…plz help me im sort of freaking out…
One C+ probably won’t kill your chances, but multiple C’s can, esp. for top colleges. I would try my best to raise your physics grade to at least a B…
Yeah, get used to this in HS and even in college, sometimes. Find ways around it by asking others (your teacher, classmates, tutors, etc.) for help.
I feel like I should start a support group for people freaking out about Cs. I can’t speak directly to the schools you listed, but I can say that schools that look at the whole picture really DO look at the whole picture. My kid has all Bs in HS, with a C in freshman year and a C in junior year. Just getting As for the first time in senior year. Very rigorous school and scores like yours, but still a less-than-stellar GPA. No hooks. He got into an outstanding and highly selective LAC (one of the CC darlings) that thought he was a good intellectual and social fit despite the two Cs. With merit aid. Try to get those grades up, obviously, but also recognize that there is more to you than those grades and that there are ways to convey that to schools through essays, recommendations, etc.
C’s will bring down your GPA. Selective and even less selective schools will be using your GPA as one measurement to consider when looking at your application. Sounds like you have a lot of good things going for you. Don’t sweat the small stuff and do your best. Your list looks very reasonable. Good luck and no need to freak out over this.
C’s will bring your GPA and can make a notable change actually but don’t stress it. Having a borderline C about to be a B is not bad either.
You should only freak out if you have multiple D’s
Best of luck!
Thanks, im gonna try really hard to raise my scores however if it doesnt go as planned should i alter my colleges?
Also does anyone know if a C+ will hurt my chances for Bio-Medical engineering as a major, its a type of engineering but i don’t know if physics is so heavily dependent of it…
Apply to a broad range of colleges including a Safety which 1) you are assured of admission, 2) can easily afford, and 3) would be happy to attend. U Alabama might be a good option there. A C+ in physics might have an impact on admission there for engineering options but applying broadly should mitigate that risk.
