I visited Union about a year ago, and I liked it a lot. The problem was that I visited just as they were coming back from vacation, so I wasn't really able to meet many students or professors. So,what I want to know is, how would you describe the students and staff at Union? Are the students preppy? jockish? Are the professors really involved in what they teach? Are they easy to talk to?

My son is a freshman and loves Union. He expected to find a bunch of rich, preppy kids but it has not been like that at all. While there are all types, he has found lots of down to earth kids. While there are jocks, it is not dominant and even then, it depends on what you mean by jocks. The guys are into sports and they play and watch, but I do not think they really swagger around campus. The professors are very easy to talk to and seem committed to teaching undergrads.

While there are definitely all types of people at Union, I've found that since I've been here a lot of the students here are all very similar (the typical girl wears tights, uggz, etc. and guys wear sweatpants are and jock-ish but like ThreeSons said it depends on what your definition of a jock is...). It's sad that so many people here only do things because it's the cool thing to be doing. The students can also be pretty apathetic...

That being said, there is definitely a more active and diverse presence on campus. Everyone is really nice to each other, too, whether it's holding the door open for someone or saying hi.

The professors are very accessible, along with the rest of the faculty. They definitely are looking out for the students and in the short time I've been here I've already made some close relationships with a few professors. Everyone really wants you to do well and there are a huge number of resources from academic to social.
