What are the pros and cons of a big high school?

What are the pros and cons of a big high school (With over 4,000 students) compared to a less populated high school with only around 1,000 students? I attend a small suburban high school with only around 1,000 students and I wish my parents moved to a bigger area where there's a lot of students in the high school so there's a better chance of me fitting in well, being more confident, making myself better, and experiencing diversity. In my high school, it's just not like that.

Pros: Diversity (as you stated); more ideas; more off days for holidays =)

Cons: Fewer people to meet and socialize with (obv); not as great individual attention from teachers

Cons: You'll hate everything about it within a few months
Pros: You can totally find a little niche and hide in it for the rest of high school :) Or just hide away from people in general!

^^Some people might see diversity as a con actually. It's unfortunate but true.

My school has 3500 people, and we're really diverse. I really don't think I could stand being in a small school where everyone knows everyone.

Obstinate, I don't understand why you would hate it. My school has over 6,000 kids and I went to a K-8 school with about 200 kids total. Big schools definitely much better IMO.

Pro: Huge course selections, more diversity, more EC opportunities, the opportunity to switch out of a teacher if you don't get along (with many smaller schools, only one teacher teaches a particular class), easier to get the classes you want because there are more of them, usually better prepares you for the large college environment... hmm give me time, I could think of more.

Cons: Occasionally you get less attention, but that could happen with overcrowding at either large or small schools, and less opportunities to get on to cut-sport teams.

^ Yeah, romani's PRO list is good. That's exactly why I like having a big school.

Hahahahahahaha. My high school has 180 students. Where does that fit?

I'm gonna have to say that the pros definitely outweigh the cons here. A big high school is more like the real world. Most employers have more workers than my high school has students. I know I would be happy to attend a school with 1000 students, because it would offer so much more than my high school does.

^ That's not even a real school.. lol.

My school has around 1200 kids, and it sucks. One AP Physics B class (which I couldn't get into because it conflicted with 2 other APs), one AP Italian class, few teachers that teach the same subject, everyone knows everyone, etc.

I wish I went to a big (3000+ students) high school. You guys are lucky.

^Don't even go there. I have no AP, honors, IB, advanced, gifted, any of that. In my government class, I sit next to this girl that's almost failed all her core courses. And my science classes didn't teach me near enough to be ready for an SAT Subject Test. Luckily, I can get by without taking a science one.

Bigger high schools are better. End of story.

depends what kind of a person you are
if you're really social you'd love a big school because you can have hundreds or even thousands of friends
i go to a pretty big school (4500) and it's not all too bad

Bigger High School aren't better.
High Schools with Bigger Budgets are better.

My school is also, indeed, a pretty big school (3300+ I'd say, Idk exact numbers).

Each has its pros and cons, but in the long run (or maybe even the short run), I'm not complaining...

You still need size to make it happen. You can't have AP US History if you only have two people that want to take the class.

very good point, the state of California where i live....due to a movie star becoming governor...shows how pathetic americans are at voting...has caused our state dept to plummet
it's kinda funny how he's trying to cut educational budgets and the students made huge gatherings so he was like "ok...i'll only cut a little"
the man's so stupid...he spends 480,000 gallons of kerosine (jet fuel) every year just so he could fly to his home and back every morning at night on his damn private plane!
WHAT A MORON!

How many of you guys go to a Small Learning Community? The educational benefits are really great, but it is really like a small school; everyone knows you. It's kind of weird after a while.

...1000 kids isn't a big school? Where do you people LIVE?! My high school had 1,500 people, and the biggest in our district had 1,800 people, and those were huge.

I liked going to a big high school. I fel more anonymous. I had friends who went to private schools with like 60 people per grade and that just seemed like it would be a pain. Everyone in everyone else's business. No thank you. I had that enough in band.

Lol...1000 kids is a small school, thats around 250 kids per class...

My class of 011 has about 900 students in it and the new freshmen class has about 1000+ students in it...

I am not faking these numbers either, just went on my schools webpage to check it to make sure it's true.

I love my school, because of all the academic opportunities, but the sports are way too competitive and our coaches suck. We have a lot load of clubs, but most kids don't get a chance to be a officer until their senior year. There are a lot of great people you can meet, but it's such a clique school I only became friends with about 10 people i already didnt know in middle school

^^ yup
my school's like that too
4500+

i think my class has like 967 kids
