I am currently a high school junior and play sports all year round (basketball, soccer, and softball), I would love to play in college but am not looking to get recruited. I am interested in playing, however I feel that intramurals are not really competitive enough for me, and was wondering if club sports are available as a better option. (I hijacked this screen name from my mom)

My daughter plays a club sport. It has been a lot of fun and a good work out. It is very respectful of the fact that some weekends are better than others for playing (because of writing papers, etc.) However, when they are competing, the girls are very focused and playing to win.

You have to check the website to see what club sports are available.

As a varsity and club sport player, I can tell you it really depends on the sport you're looking for. For the particular sports you're interested in you may want to contact the coach. I know the basketball team is VERY low on girls (currently 9 or 10 on the team?) and I have several friends on the softball team who really enjoy it it. I don't know as much about the soccer team but I have several friends on it who enjoy it as well.

The varsity sports certainly are time consuming, but are not nearly as bad (for the most part) as other schools I've seen and most coaches really try to understand their players' needs of time for academics.

If you're looking for something more laid back though, as you mentioned, there are a few club sports that are still very competitive and essentially play and practice (although not as often) just as hard as varsity teams. The two that come to mind that hold actual competitive seasons (and do very well) are the women's frisbee and rugby teams. They generally practice 3-4 days a week instead of the 6 day a week varsity schedules. I'm not really sure about other club sports... but just from the lack of hearing about them I don't think they're what you're looking for. Maybe someone else can tell you more about them though.

It wouldn't be a bad time to take up a new sport like Ultimate Frisbee or Rugby. They're quite good in Claremont

And there's also inner tube water polo that's very popular! (No, it's not a varsity sport!)
