<p>To all alternates out there:</p>
<p>What are you guys/gals doing as of right now to advance your application package? Any new awards/ideas to draw some eyes over in admissions?</p>
<p>It's a challenge...I mean, my son can't exactly become an eagle scout in a few weeks or excell in a new sport or become class president tomorrow! We have encouraged him to ask for a few more reference letters from USN Sea Cadet leader, Camp Sea Gull employer, etc. He received an A in a college level econ class he took at University of Richmond this fall, so that has gone to USCGA. This week-end, he went along as a "peer mentor" with the confirmation class retreat, giving up his long holiday week-end after exams. We'll ask for a letter from the retreat coordinator. Any other "tips" would be greatly appreciated. My son received primary MOC nom to USMMA and alternates to USNA and USMA. Would a copy of that nomination letter on MOC letterhead be of interest or annoyance at USCGA?</p>
<p>Forgot to ask earlier today...also, my son completed AIM last summer and was asked a few questions by admissions-certainly not a complete face-to-face interview. Should we request one, now that he's an alternate, and make that trip back to New London from Virginia???</p>
<p>Get your son to make up a full-blown resume, complete with everything pertaining to admission to CGA. Tell him to write it just as he would be applying for a high-powered job on the outside. If he is good in a particular sport, make sure he elaborates any outstanding stats (and then also send a copy of a resume to that sports coach also). Also, put a face with his name to include a photograph with the resume. </p>

<p>Mom I wouldn't send anything relating to nominations to other academies. I don't think that would advance his application. You are on the right track and rep gives some good ideas.</p>

I think we have covered the resume and photos to admissions. also, son was goalie for his soccer team, taking the state championship. also in touch with sailing coach as he has taught sailing as a counselor at Camp Sea Gull in NC. he's a 1st lieutenant in JROTC unit of distinction. robotics engineering team, too. despite the other academy nominations, appointment to VMI, and other accepts, ALL he really wants is USCGA. we're trying to be patient and think positive thoughts!</p>
