What are you up to?

It's the lull season between decisions and the new application cycle. So, who's around? What are you up to this summer?

(And, as always, any questions about applying or starting at MIT are welcome :P)

Ooh, me!

I’m all moved into a new apartment near Central Square, so I’m back in the 02139. And, let me tell you, it feels good. My husband took a too-good-to-pass-up job offer at Google about two months ago, so we are doing the long-distance thing for a while, hence my new apartment back in Cambridge. My postdoc lab is at Harvard Medical School, which is a fairly quick commute from the new place, and I’m studying developmental genetic disorders of the human brain.

@molliebatmit‌ - Whoa, is this your husband’s first non-aero job? (I assume he’s in a San Francisco area office and not the Cambridge one if you guys are doing the long-distance thing?) How long have you been postdoc-ing?

i am le tired

Yeah, he’s in SF. They’re being really great about it, and they’re paying for us to visit each other about once every three weeks, so it could definitely be worse. But obviously we’ve been together since college, so neither of us has ever actually lived alone as an adult, so it’s kind of weird.

I’m coming up on the first anniversary of my postdoc, which means I will get my salary bump soon. (Such as it is.)

I’m so nervous about applying to MIT. I’ve been working on my essays and I’m proud of them, but I hope that they adequately show my passion. When I’m not slaving over those, I’ve been reading about people’s past experiences with E2@MIT, which I’ll be attending this summer. I’m so excited for that :D.

Hey Mollie, Merck is hiring out here in Silicon Valley. And there are scores of other biotech startups looking for scientists. The weather is better too…
:-)

Haven’t been on CC since… a long time ago. Post-MIT, I hopped around a few jobs trying to figure out what I wanted to do in life. Will be starting my Masters in Finance at UT Austin this fall. In the meantime: working on startups, volunteering at nonprofits, and studying for my CFP/CFA exams :(

Also became an EC for MIT and had a blast interviewing a ton of awesome students this past year! Can’t wait to do it again :)

Pff, the weather is boring :stuck_out_tongue: After 18 years of California I was ready for seasons.

I just signed up to do this! :D
