The Dark Knight is awesome too!

I loved Iron man too!!
havn't been able to watch dark knight though. Um Pineapple express is another favorite...i can't really think that far back lol

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button....even though some people said it was boring.

The Dark Knight
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

the dark knight
slumdog millionaire
burn after reading

Aha! I already made a top 10 list of this year. Every one of Russel7's movies are on it.

Slumdog Millionaire

Milk

The Dark Knight

Synecdoche, New York

Burn After Reading

The Fall

Man on Wire

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

WALL-E

Beverly Hills Chihuahua ...just kidding

Of course, I didn't see all the great movies that came out this year. Some of them haven't even come out here yet [such as The Wrestler, The Reader and Revolutionary Road] and I can't get up to the local indie theater every week, so I've unfortunately missed a few good ones.

Though WALL-E was loved by everyone this year, I only found it to be a decent movie, not an amazing one. Synecdoche, New York blows your mind; when it is over you're so confused but still know that what you've just seen is brilliant. Man on Wire had beautiful footage of Philippe Petit tightroping across the World Trade Center Towers and the story was eloquently and emotionally told. Milk had wonderful acting and was really inspiring. The Dark Knight was completely over-the-top, and I mean that in the best way possible. The acting, the production, the score, the darkness to it all came together amazingly. Burn After Reading was absolutely hilarious, the only intelligent comedy to come out this year. The Fall had stunning art direction, and was quite poignant. Benjamin Button was full of sadness, passion, and a celebration of life.

And then there is Slumdog Millionaire. This movie is a beauty. I don't even want to write the wonderful things I feel about it because I'm afraid I'd make it sound worse than it really is. Just go see it.

Hell yes! Slumdog Millionaire won Best Picture, Best Directing, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score at the Golden Globes.

And I'm so happy for Kate Winslet for getting both Golden Globes for a female actress in a motion picture drama.

i'm really disappointed that slumdog's gonna get best picture (oscar), even though I loved it. I thought that it was a really well told story, but it didn't feel epic enough for a best picture nod and I thought the destiny theme was corny. I guess we can chalk that down to a weak year, although i still gotta watch milk, and haven't finished watching the fall. got half way and then forgot to finish it.

edit: I guess not necessarily. I just looked at last year's GG awards and they gave best picture to atonement. LOL. And last year was a really good year with a lot of contenders.

Actually, I haven't seen a single movie from 2008...

Atonement shouldn't have won last year. Last years awards sucked, seeing as it consisted of no audience or film makers.

Slumdog Millionaire SHOULD win, though. Because of it's simplicity. It's accessible to anyone because it's message is simple. A movie doesn't have to necessarily be deep or complex to win the critics and general population over. If it would, The Fountain would have actually been nominated for something back when it came out [besides Best Score, which Clint Mansell should have won].

Milk was amazing. Sean Penn is marvelous.

The Fall is beautiful, and the little girl is so cute. ^_^

yawn: you missed out on a lot.

Well it needs something to set it apart from the rest. I thought that There Will be Blood, Into the Wild, and No COuntry for Old men were all worthy for best picture last year. Slumdog is just a really well told story, but when I compare it to other movies of that category, like city of god, it just doesn't measure up to that elite class. I felt that slumdog copped out big time and allowed too much BS to get by in the story, justifying it with destiny. Or if it was the other way around (they wrote some bizarre stuff to enforce the destiny claim) then it's too much like a disney plot.

This year only the dark knight deserves it, really, based merely on how entertaining and well crafted it was. But it won't ever win because 1) huge budget, 2) too much hype and mass appeal, and 3) it's based on a comic book.

I've been meaning to see at least The Dark Knight, but I've yet to get around to it. >_<

Into the Wild was definitely my pick from last year. Great film.

I see your point, but I still think it's the best movie of the year.

The Dark Knight is getting credit where it's due, though. Heath Ledger won Best Supporting Actor at both the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, and The Dark Knight won Best Action at the Critics Choice Awards, too.

You can't argue that it's mainstream appeal is keeping it out of winning a lot. Look at Titanic, and Gladiator, and Lord of the Rings, just to name a few out of many examples.

yeah, I guess you're right, especially about lord of the rings.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE.

The Dark Knight was good too, but SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE!

Not only was it a great story, but I loved the love (I'm so corny), even if it was a bit cheesy. I also think it's a perfect example of globalization, as hollywood and bollywood combined for it.

^ It was a British film. >_<

Gran Torino... best movie ever... so unintentionally funny.

Clint Eastwood's movies are all similar. He has talent, yes. But does he have diversity? No.

They all have some element of manliness on them.
