I had a double mastectomy several years back and “went flat.” Bathing suits all have shelf bras that scratch m scars. If anyone else has this problem, I would love suggestions.
@mathmom the blue one you posted looked like a nice shape
I’m trying my best not to have to put one on. But when I do, I wear a 2 piece. Plus a coverup. I really hate wearing them now. I’m long waisted and with a minor mommy tummy pooch, look horrible in one piece and tankini suits from the side. Believe it or not, 2 pieces look better. Don’t have a pic thank goodness.
I really do love Land’s End swimwear (and, based on some of the links on this thread, I’m not alone!!). I especially love their swim skirts and shorts. I’m really self conscious in a normal bathing suit bottom.
But… I’m a little tired of wearing a tankini top with an underwire. And Lands End doesn’t have a ton of shelf-bra options. So I’ve been on the lookout for tops that will match the collections of lands end bottoms that I’ve accumulated. This is a new favorite that I got earlier this year. I like it a lot and might get another, since I see there’s a sale on now!
Try Jolyn suits; they’re made with athletes in mind, so most of their suits don’t have shelves. They’re really comfortable, and they hold up well to sun and chlorine.
They offer ones with full bum coverage which I personally like, but they have all kinds of styles.
Sadly, I rarely wear swimsuits. When we go somewhere where there is water and people are hanging out near pool/beach, I may wear skort or board shorts and rash guard top or short-sleeved tshirt.
I have been wearing variations on a black bikini for years (w/cover-up to walk to/from beach and hide from sun). What would ‘not age-appropriate’ look like I wonder?
I’ve bought this suit 5 times in different colors:
My swimsuits are mostly worn in the backyard pool and hot tub. I’m too tall for one piece suits. For the beach I’d wear a swim skirt , rash guard or sarong for more modesty. In my backyard I just want to be comfortable. Chlorine is tough on swimsuits so I need at least one each year.
I love to play around with swim suits so I own many! Spend more time at lakes, pools and waterparks than the ocean, fwiw. Also tend to be more active–walking, kayaking, tubing, water slides so I need good fit and care less about tan lines. I need serious support on top either built in or coverage for a traditional bra underneath.
This year I tried out 2 new bottoms from land’s end: #1 Board shorts-longer length. Waist lies flat and is comfortable, moves with my body and the pockets are nice. Mesh on one side so they don’t hold sand and dry quickly. I like that I can wear these around town when we duck out for lunch without feeling like I need to change!
#2 High waisted swim leggings in navy.
These are not my typical style, at all, but I like to try new things. WOW, I was surprised how comfortable they were. Chose them for a 70 degree morning at the water park. We raced from slide to slide so I was wet and walking fast. Very comfortable, no chaffing, I was warm and not chilled, they felt great. Easy up/down for the bathroom and they dried relatively quickly.
Swim tops: #1 I find this top flattering but the straps are not supportive enough for me for a full day for activity. I wear it when I’m spending more time lounging and visiting with friends.
#2 Flutter top, tankini. I bought one but I haven’t tried it yet. The straps and construction feel more supportive than #1.
