I am a rising senior who plans to take the ACT in September. I am done with Dissecting the ACT 2.0, and a few pages from finishing the Red Book and 1296.

And yes, my score in 1296 is lower than those of the Red Book. In the Red Book, I usually get 30 to 32, but in 1296...high 20's, and if I am lucky, a 30.

I REALLY REALLY want to about 32 to 34 on the real test, so is there any good book out there that can help me sharpen my ACT skills? Seriously, this test is going to determine my next four years.......

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I just borrowed the 1296 PR from my public library, is it any good? how accurate to actual? harder or easier?

bump^ thanks

1296’s english is accurate. Math is a bit harder. Reading is about the same, and science is like…death compared to the red book.

I guess it does provide good practice.

any advice? please??

BUMP

1296 is the best book (and the only one I used :P) in my opinion. Do all the practice and look where you are having difficulty. Keen in on these errors, you’ll find many are just careless or because of a few errors the book might have. I too scored lower on my 1296 book then I did on the real test. In fact I scored better in each section then I did on the practice tests. I got a 27-30 for Sci section in PR book while I got a 36 on the real deal. Use it for practice, if you aren’t scoring super high according to 1296 just be calm about it, if you prepare well you’ll do well.

^ Haha, thanks! May I ask how long you took to finish the 1296 book?

I am currently using ACT 36 by Barrons to help me prep for the September ACT. I got a 30 composite on my first testing, with no prep. I used their other book, SAT 2400, to raise my scores a decent amount in the SAT. I am aiming to get another point or two, and I like how this book talks about how to tackle the tough questions. Other books are often too long and spend too much time reviewing basic material. I would absolutely recommend it; it is not too long and definitely is worth it for higher achieving students.

I have never heard of 1296, where can you find it?

Once you’ve gone through three books, the marginal benefit of a fourth is worth neither your time nor the money you’d spend on it.

@keabie18 I’m sure most bookstores have it. Even some libraries.

@RedSeven Yes, I do recognize that. But I just don’t want to hang around doing nothing till the day of the exam. I have more than a month to go so I just want to buy a book to not lose the feeling of the test…lol

Just retake some. There’s NO way that you remember the questions by now if you’ve gone through that many different materials. Do the ones you started with. Erase your work in the book.

@jmassey16
I guess I could do that
thanks!

Barren 36 is pretty famous.
