What can I do in my senior year to improve my chances?

I have not been involved in many extra curricular activities in high school, however I do have good grades and I know I will have good letters of recommendation. I really need something to improve my chances. What do you suggest?

P.S. Sorry for my grammar. I had to be quick.

I forgot to mention I haven’t started 12th grade yet.

You are a Jr then? you have all spring and summer and fall to do something. What do you do with yourself when you are not in school and done studying?

Most universities (in particular your state’s public universities) will accept you based on SAT+GPA.
If you’re thinking of 100% need colleges (if you think you’ll need a lot of financial aid and have 3.7+UWGPA) then you need to demonstrate leadership in some of the extracurriculars you’ve been involved in/practiced so far.

If you have a clear first-choice and the finances look right, Early Decision should also be considered.

I’m planning on applying early decision to one college and early action to another one.

Hi. I am planning to get a summer job and would also like to get involved in volunteer activities.

I think this is what think I could do. Please tell me what you think.

Summer
Summer job + volunteer work

senior year
Joining a club + ap courses + any contest I can enter

Joining clubs, getting involved in ECs, your Sr year is very transparent that the interest is not there but the desire to write something on college applications. They want to see things you’ve done 3-4yrs. It’s too late for that. I’d look at getting a PT job NOW, something you can keep though the summer, though your Sr year until you leave for college. A Job can be just as valuable as an EC (or more). This gives you the longest time commitment.

When you say you have not been involved in many EC’s, I assume you have been involved in some. So, you should stay with those and get a leadership position in them. Colleges aren’t interested in a large number of EC’s, they want to see commitment and leadership.

^ This is a good point. Certainly stick with anything you’ve been involved with. Try to deepen your involvement, gain more responsibility, take on a leadership role at the end of the year if possible. You don’t need a long list. Two ECs you’re really involved with and committed to is better then 7-8 that you just attend meetings.
