What can I do? What colleges?

my unweighted gpa is really bad and I got a C in both semesters of Chem H. and the last semester of Pre-calc h. my

unweighted gpa is a 3 for 10-12 A-g and

for 9-12 its 3.182

i just finished sophomore year. I don’t know what to do. Because as of right now i have Bs and 3 C’s on my transcript. Next year Im taking 3 aps, 2 honors, and 1 regular and they are all the right fit so i plan to get a 4.0 next year

but will this sophomore year kill my chances at good colleges. I wanted to go into Computer Sci or Business but at this point everyone is telling i’ll never get into a good college for comp sci. Im sort of aiming for middle-ish UCs (UC Davis, UCSB, UCI) and east coast schools like NYU, UIUC, RIT…

my high school is also really competitive and is in the bay area school district so everyone here has much better stats than me. I just want to know if I could still aim for my wanted colleges by getting a 4.0 here on out, and taking all APs senior year.

Also my stats are pretty good with good things I did during the summer (internships at a tech startup), I also might be making an app with a friend, and sports and volunteering and a job

Thank you!

PS please be nice I want to be hopeful, considering everyone has lost hope in me.

OH and also I took a diag test of ACT and SAT scored better on ACT with a 29 which means if I do prep I can bring it up 4 points so a 33. I don’t know if that changes things but yah

OH and my essay skills are pretty good, and the main thing Im worrying about is my gpa and my 3 C’s

Right now focus on standardized tests. Try to do test prep to get a good ACT/SAT score.

Given the GPA, your best UC bets are Merced and Riverside and those are low reaches based on your GPA. UIUC for CompSci is a massive reach (assuming that you’re applying to EECS). NYU/RIT are reaches as well based on GPA.

Do you have extenuating circumstances to explain the low GPA? Also, the UCs do not look at senior GPA. It’s 10-11 grade GPA only.

If I do get a 4.0 gpa in Junior year and Senior would that show an upward trend and increase my gpa enough? and for UIUC do they look at the same grades as UCs (A-G) or all the grades?

Realistically, it probably will. You’re also holding yourself to a really high standard as as far as colleges go- All of the schools that you mentioned are well above “middle-ish”. It’s not bad to have high goals, but you need to consider a lot more schools that fit your profile.

CSUs are great and will allow you to graduate with minimal debt, and there are a number of small private colleges in SoCal that accept lower GPA averages (University of Redlands, St. Mary’s, and Dominican University of California are just a few).

Your chances will also largely depend on SAT/ACT scores and extracurriculars.

It’s hard to not compare yourself to your peers, but I implore you not to. Likewise with college choice. College is what you make it, and the most motivated student at a CC can make leaps and bounds more difference in the world than a kid that went to NYU and never did anything with what they learned.

I believe in you! Keep going- I wish you the best of luck in your junior and senior years.

UIUC is in the midwest, not East coast. Your GPA would be out of the admission range for it.

Regardless of how well you may do on SAT/ACT your GPA would likely result in denial at any top 50 college.
