My gpa is around a 3 and i just entered my junior year of high school. This is due to the fact that i came in and out of foster care and have been to 4 high schools. I started a unicef club at one of the schools i went to, but i had to leave because i moved. i was also in DECA. i am part of the sudanese community association of Illinois. How high can i raise my gpa by senior year? can i get into and of the top 30 schools? HELP! its really stressing me out! any other advice would be helpful as well! im looking at UCLA, duke, northwestern, and u of i.

Omg I know how you feel I was also in foster care, moved around a lot which really jeopardized my grades. Since you are barely going into junior year you still have a chance to improve your gpa. Take AP and Honors if you can, and remember extra-curriculars don’t have to be in school so try volunteering, learning to play an instrument, a new language, etc. Also remember that colleges have holistic admissions meaning they’ll look at your entire application, not just your GPA. Top 30 schools are reach schools for most so don’t expect to get accepted, there are plenty of other great schools out there. Good luck:)

Thanks! all my classes are at a community college so they are college level which i think will look good. im taking arabic and spanish and im trying to find ways to make everything else look good.

That’s even better imo:) Are those classes weighted like AP classes? I think the fact that you started a club shows a lot of leadership and motivation, I’m sure you’ll get into a good school:)

Given your experiences, I’m sure you can make a solid essay to present to admissions. Which is good, as the T30 schools are holistic, if I’m not mistaken. I’d try to raise your GPA to the best of your ability and knock out the Sat/ACT – a 2100 or 32+ would be a strong goal to shoot for!
