What can I expect in a Middlebury college group interview?

Hi everyone!

Just a month ago I became a Posse Finalist for Middlebury College and have my interview in a week. For those who don't know Posse is a foundation that gives scholarships and mentorship to exceptional leaders within inner-city schools that would otherwise be overlooked in the normal college admissions process. As a finalist, ten out of the twenty of us being interviewed (as a group) would be selected by Middlebury to attend the college. I've been able to visit the school and so far I really really love it. If there are any Posse or Midd people or anyone that has any input or advice as to what the admissions people are looking for, I would greatly greatly appreciate it. Thank you!!!

First, congrats on your accomplishments so far. I’m sure you’ll be very successful and a great asset wherever you attend.
I’m not familiar with group interviews, but what any interviewer is looking for is a person who appears confident, engaged and knowledgable. Don’t say nothing, but don’t talk just to hear your own voice. Why you want to go to Midd, and what you expect you would gain from the experience as well as how the campus environment/strengths meet your future goals would be a good thing to have articulated. You also shouldn’t be afraid to mention what Midd has to gain from YOU.
If you are a female, remember to focus on your strengths at the interview. Always talk about them MORE than your weaknesses. From my 5 years of interviewing Med school applicants, I found males almost universally focused on how great they were, and women discussed their weaknesses. It’s your time to shine!

Good luck!

Congratulations! And yes I agree with the previous comment. Make sure to focus on strengths and also listen to what others have to say and be insightful everything you say. Always remember to be yourself during these group interviews, and try to match your values to that of the schools. What helps in these situations is looking up maybe alum videos or videos of current students answering why they chose the school and what they have gotten out of it thus far, etc.

Good Luck!

Good ideas!^^^
