What can you tell me about Lothrop?

Looks like my s1 got a single in Lothrop. He seems ok with it. How bad does it get with no a/c? Are there closets? Appreciate any info.

Hi mdye718,
I’m not sure if my previous posts on other threads about Lothrop might have been deleted, but here is a gist of what I said before:

I lived lothrop and I personally really liked it. However, most rooms do not get AC, and I must admit, those first few weeks at the begging of the school year were very hot without air conditioning. But, there are a few rooms, ones with windows blocked by this big wall thing, that do get AC. I can’t tell you exactly how many, so I would say it will all depend on chance? And I mean, it’s really only about 2 weeks at the beginning that it is really bad.

And my other post:
The singles provide you with a different dynamic from towers. What your social life will be like will mostly depend on you. In a all singles dorm, you can have the privacy you want when you want it, but also, since everyone else is in a single, they too will be seeking out new friends. I’d greatly suggest keeping your door opening and visiting others on your floor during orientation week to meet some great new people.
In terms of meals, I eat everywhere. Market Central definitely for your swipes since they have a lot more options than the Perch. Then as for dinning dollars, William Pitt Union/Taco Bell/Cathedral during the day. On weekends, I often head up to the Pete with some friends for a meal or two. I also use a lot of my dinning dollars in the quick zones either up in Sutherland or down in Towers. I am on the lowest tier (tier 3), with around 700 dinning dollars and 50 swipes.

Within the next few weeks, there should be Facebook groups formed for each FYE floor. At that time, you can ask your RAs for specific details about your room and even pictures! But the closet in lothrop is BIG and NICE. You also get a sink, which is VERY VERY handy.

giraffodil, do you know anything about the doubles on the first floor of Lothrop? D2 will be in one next year, and didn’t get a chance to take a look before leaving campus.

Thanks Giraffodil. Now my s1 is kind of torn. I think he likes the idea of privacy, but also wants the experience of a roommate. He may call Panther Central to get on the waitlist for another room. We’ll see! Thanks again for the input.

Mrsref, I have only taken a peak at the doubles during my first week there. From what I can remember, the room is very big and spacious. MUCH bigger than a Towers double. I don’t believe they have a sink though. The entire 1st floor was renovated just 2-3 years ago (I think. But either way, it’s very new) because they used to be offices. Thus, the bathroom is also the nicest one in Lothrop.

Mdye718: Glad to help. :)

one more question: is there carpet or do we need to invest in a rug?

Hm…I’m pretty sure it has carpet. All the singles do. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be the same for the doubles on the 1st floor.
