I have recently moved to the bay area and I don’t know what community college I should go to.
I graduated High School this summer. I want to major in Political Science.
An educator recommended me De Anza and Foothills.
I want to transfer to UCLA of UCBerkeley in two years…
Which CC is better? Which one will prepare me? From which one will it be easier to transfer put in two years?
I have leaned more towards De Anza just because it has more students… but I’m scared it won’t be the best choice.
Not any CC. The CCs that are in larger populations ie Bay Area or LA area would tend to have more classes and this give you more choices to articulate.
Use assist.org, choose a CC and say Berkeley and then see how many classes can articulate. You probably want the CC that can offer the most classes that are scheduled that can articulate.
If your goal is UCLA or UCB, then you should enroll in an Honors program. Do you have a 3.5+ GPA from your high school? (If not, you can get into Honors later based on your college GPA.)
Both De Anza and Foothill are good. (And they comprise one community college district, so it’s relatively easy to mix classes from both, over the time you’re there, if you want to.) De Anza is bigger overall, but it appears that the Honors course offerings at Foothill may be more extensive. (And the Foothill Honors website seems to be more up-to-date.) https://www.foothill.edu/honors/courses.html https://www.deanza.edu/honors/courses.html
Are these the closest CC’s to your home? West Valley is also good (and also has an Honors program).
It also depends on your extracurricular interests, as the different campuses have different strengths. This can end up outweighing minor differences in the academics.
