Hello! This is my first post on the forum!!

First a little background: I'm 18, a high school graduate, in my first semester at a school in the California Community College system, and a journalism major. I have not taken the SAT or ACT, had a 2.8 cumulative GPA in high school, and have a 3.0 currently.

I've always wanted to live in an urban environment (I'm from the suburbs), particularly in either New York or Chicago. I know that Columbia College Chicago accepts credits from my community college, and it's conceivable I can get in there. But I don't know about other schools in Chicago and NY. I've been scouring the websites of University of Chicago, Loyola University Chicago, New York University, and Hunter College for hours and I can't find the information I'm looking for.

Thanks

Try emailing the transfer admissions group at DePaul in Chicago. Or I think one of the transfer pages have a dialogue box in it. You may not get a definitive answer until you apply, though–they are set up to transfer Illinois CC coursework. University of Chicago is too selective for your gpa.

Hi :)

Colleges in Chicago have something called the IAI set up with CCs here. I would say that based on what you’re looking for and your GPA, you will probably love DePaul. As long as the classes you’re taking now aren’t remedial or career-related, they should transfer. The only classes you might have to catch up on are Theology related. I’d also check out Loyola. Their campus is a little less “urban” but the red line will easily fix that problem if you really want to see the city.

UIC is also worth checking out. PM me if you want me to find the link, but they have a degree planning website that shows what classes work with certain majors. It’s pretty helpful.
