So far my fall semester, for a total of 16 credit hours, consists of:
Music Theory III
Music History I
Class Piano I
Symphonic or Concert Band (depending on which band I am placed after chair placement auditions)
Hour Long Applied Clarinet Lessons
World Civilizations: Japan (cultural studies credit)
Possibly 17 if I do a clarinet or woodwind ensemble.
Comparative Politics of Industrialized Societies (Major: Political Science)
Public Policy (Major: Political Science)
Greco-Roman Paganism (Minor: Religious Studies)
History of Medicine; From Leeches to Lasers (Diversity Req.)
Reimagining American Identity (Honors Req.)
Im a sophomore next year (math/cs major, music minor). My university uses the conversion of 1 unit= 3.5 credits.
Number theory (1)
Software systems design (.5)
Class voice (.5)
Computer Organization (1)
Cultural Musicology (1, ugh i don’t want to take this, but music theory 3 is at the same time as SSD and this fulfills a music requirement)
Contemporary 1 or Movement Improv (1, dance class that I audit so I don’t actually get a grade, i’m still going back and forth with the department because i want to take the latter)
Primary private lessons (.5)
Secondary private lessons (.5)
Orchestra (.5)
Jazz Combo (.25, its pass/fail)
Rep class (0, required for music majors/minors)
Thats 6.75 units or 23.625 credits (which is what I took last semester, fall semester I took 6.5 units).
Then I’m also in several other ensembles without being in the course, so they don’t go on my transcript. Each of them are .5 if you register for the course:
Chamber music
Band
Jazz Band (Don’t know yet, but the director said most likely i could)
Surveying (3)
Statics & Dynamics (5)
Elementary Linear Algebra (2)
General Physics II (3)
Intro to American Studies (3) or Moral Issues in Business (3) - I haven’t decided which one but both knock out a gen ed.
5 classes, 16 credits. It’ll feel like such an easy semester after the spring (19 credits) and summer (7 credits + 30 hour work week).
My current schedule is 15 credits, but will be 18 once I add my appropriate Chinese language course:
Math 100
English 101
The Africana Experience
Intro Weather+Climate
Language
I was about to make my classes only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but thought it would be unwise especially since I’d do work-study. I ended up bunching them up in the morning to early-afternoon.
I’ll be a junior at UIUC this fall. I’m double majoring in physics and math, and I’ll be taking the following:
Special Relativity and Mathematical Methods in the Physical Sciences
Classical Mechanics I
Honors Fundamental Mathematics (which is an intro to proofs and upper level math)
Intro Computer Programming for Science and Engineering
World Religions (my last GenEd course)
This is 15 credits altogether. It should be a cool semester. I’m really looking forward to it.
Double majoring in computer science and linguistics, going into my senior year:
Machine learning (CS elective)
Software engineering (CS elective)
Intermediate German (because it fits in my schedule, and why not?)
Survey of Religion (because it fits in my schedule, sounds interesting, and why not?)
Total: 16 units
I might drop either the German class or the religious studies class (not both because I still need financial aid…) if the CS classes end up being super high workload, but I hope it doesn’t come to that because I do want to take both of them. It’s so weird to think that I only have three quarters left!
German 1000 (5)
Career Explorations in Journalism (1)
Principles of American Journalism (3)
Psychology 1000 (3)
Honors Colloquium - The Ancient World (3)
Mock Trial (1)
Dean’s Student Advisory Council (3)
ECON300 (math stuff for econ, covers up to diff eq) (3)
ECON321 (econ statistics) (3)
German (3)
GVPT409H (honors introduction to quantitative methods and analysis in international relations) (3)
INAG110 (comm, speeches n stuff) (3)
I’ll be at junior standing and I’m taking classes for my major!!! I’m so excited! They are:
Anatomy and Physiology of Speech (3)
Hearing and Hearing Disorders (3)
Phonetics (3)
Language Development (3)
I’ll also have a 5th class online, but my advisor can’t place me into it until much closer to the start of the semester so I’m not sure what it’ll be beyond knowing it’ll be a human development or psych class.
