You made my heart sink when I read that, @Violet1996 lol. However, I’ve discussed my schedule with my academic adviser and clearly asked her “will I still be able to graduate in 4 years?” and her response was “yes.”
@stugace How many classes (include only CS classes, as math classes that are pre reqs can often be taken concurrent with the CS classes) do you need for the major? At my school we have to take like 16 classes, which I think is on the higher side. You might still be able to graduate in time, it’ll just be difficult.
@Violet1996 , I’m doing BA and will finish my pre-req math classes in my first year.
Here’s the CS classes I need to get into CS itself:
CSC 127A Intro to Computer Science I
CSC 127B Intro to Computer Science II
CSC 245/MATH 243/MATH 323 Intro to Discrete Structures
CSC 352 Systems Programming and UNIX
Also, here’s my schedule for first semester:
Math 100
English 101
The Africana Experience
Intro Weather+Climate
Language
(plus a Chinese class once I take the placement exam)
When I actually get into the major, there are a total of 5 required classes (not including pre-reqs) for the BA in CS. We also must take on a minor and 2 more semesters of a foreign language for a BA which explains the lack of CS courses. BS has a lot more CS courses, but they don’t need a minor and 2 more semesters of a foreign language.
I’m going to take on more CS courses if I have room to also graduate in 4 years.
@stugace Oh then you’re completely set. You could finish just the CS courses in a year if you were feeling ambitious enough. You’ll be fine. Even the BA degree at my university has like 12 required CS courses, so it takes time to finish them. Sorry if I gave you a minor heart attack, your situation is different than the typical CS major’s which is why I also initially got confused.
Basics of Pharmacology (2 credits)
Community Internships (3 credits)
Psychology of Interpersonal Relationships (3 credits)
Asian American Lit and Drama (3 credits)
Textual Analysis (4 credits)
Introduction to Chemistry (3 credits)
I’m a bit nervous, especially to be doing chemistry along with a fair amount of credits. But I’m also highly committed to all that I’m doing.
I just changed my schedule again for like the 20th time. I found out that I can take an online class for 1 credit instead of an 3 credit lecture and 1 credit lab flr physics since I have AP credit from the B exam. So now my schedule is…
Statics & Dynamics (5)
Surveying (3)
Linear Algebra (2)
Geology (3)
Moral Issues in Business (3, online, ends in October)
Calculus Supplement for College Physics II (1, online, starts in October)
I’m now done by noon everyday except Tuesday, so I’ll have a good chunk of time to continue working for the company I’m interning with.
Going to be a second year student:
Organic Chemistry 1 (3)
Calc 4 (3)
Physics for Scientists and Engineers 1 (3)
Physics Lab for Scientists 1 (1)
Spanish Cultural Reading and Composition (3)
@eenumber1 What does Calc 4 cover?
@bodangles - A comprehensive revelation on the meaning of our existence. (w/ proofs.)
From what I’ve seen, Calculus IV is another name for differential equations.
Contemporary Biology with lab
American History 1
Intro to Computers
Business Communications
Yup, Calc IV is usually another name for differential equations. It’s been a long time I’ve heard anyone call it that, so I forgot for a moment lol
I’m a rising sophomore, majoring in secondary education/English communications
Writing in the Social Sciences
Comparative Literature 101
Early Preparation for Teaching Instruction
Art History
Introductory Astronomy
Rising sophomore majoring in Applied Math
Honors Multivariable Calculus
Linear Algebra
Introduction to Fiction/Poetry 1
The Archaeology of Ancient Cyprus
Intermediate Hebrew 1
Wow OP i’m jealous, your course load actually looks really fun!
rising sophomore
Calculus I (5)
General Chemistry (3)
General Chemistry Lab (2)
Philosophy of Science (3)
English (3) (im waitlisted. it’s the last English course I need!)
I’m secretly hoping I don’t get into the English one, because I’m not too confident on whether I can handle 16 semester units. But I should start pushing myself eventually. I might take it next summer if I don’t get it this Fall. It’s probably a better idea to take it sooner than later, though. I’ve gotten too comfortable with easy course-loads…
Cool! And I totally understand about your hesitation to take 16 credits. I’m going to be a full time student for the first time in two years and may be taking 17 if I get into orchestra or sign up for another smaller ensemble at my school. I’m nervous too! Good luck.
Calculus 1 (4)
Physics 1 w/lab (4)
Statistical Methods (4)
International Relations (3)
Psychology of Personality (3)
Total Credits: 18
Double major in math and physics.
Freshman this Fall! May end up majoring in Chem Engineering but we’ll see
Calc 3 (4)
Engineering Design Honors (4)
Gen Chem for Engineers Honors (4)
Eng Prob Solving and Comp Honors (4)
Enhancing Honors (1)
Rec for Chem 1151 (1)
18 credits total. Hopefully it won’t be overwhelming being the first semester of college for me!
